Description

In cases of skin concerns such as atopic dermatitis, a nutritionally balanced and specifically tailored diet can help to support and nourish your dog’s skin. ROYAL CANIN® Canine Skin Care is specially formulated with the needs of dogs with sensitive skin in mind and is available in 2kg and 4kg bags. Your dog’s skin has a natural barrier role. The specially formulated complex of nutrients in ROYAL CANIN® Canine Skin Care contribute to supporting the effectiveness of this protective function.

ROYAL CANIN® Canine Skin Care includes a combination of essential Omega-3 fatty acids from flax seed, soya, borage oils and fish oils. These fatty acids play an important role in helping to support your dog’s reactive skin. Thanks to the inclusion of highly digestible proteins and starches – as well as a blend of fibres including prebiotics – ROYAL CANIN® Canine Skin Care also helps to support a healthy and balanced digestive system in your dog. To help neutralise free radicals, ROYAL CANIN® Canine Skin Care is formulated with a synergistic complex of antioxidants. Antioxidants play a significant role in helping to support your dog’s immune system.

Demodex and Skincare

Dawn

Hi, my beagle (6 months old) has demodex. Is Skin Care dog food (SK23) suitable for her since it contains wheat?

  • VioVet Staff

This diet should be good for your dog. Wheat is definitely a problem for dogs with an allergy or sensitivity to wheat, which can happen, but is unusual in dogs that young and has no connection with Demodex. Your dog is almost certainly fine with wheat.

(Personally in fact I prefer the higher protein, low carbohydrate diets for dogs because they seem to be closer to the constituents of the natural diet dogs have been adapted to consume. This is quite a contentious issue amongst the dog food manufacturers because wheat featured heavily in most of the "quality" brands until recently. Now new ideas are coming in and the whole industry is changing. The jury is out as far as which proves on balance to be best, but my money is on the low cereal diets as it happens. However the majority of dogs do seem to do completely fine on all sorts of different foods (including cereal based) and for them it really is not critical. New problems might become evident in the newer diets in time. A good BARF diet might be best in fact, but is a lot less easy to organise. We cannot be sure yet.)

Should I freeze food

Lynne Gallaher

My dog has been tested and confirmed that he has an allergy to dust mites and mites that can be found in food. Should I freeze this food before feeding?

  • VioVet Staff

There is no point in freezing the food first. Mite allergies are to inhaled dusts and particle remnants, not ingested. If there were any mites in the food (which is unlikely) then freezing them would not de-nature their protein components and so their allergenicity would be unaffected. Where a constituent of the food is concerned, freezing or otherwise killing any mites will not help.
