  • Vascular Support - Specific nutrients to help support the vascular system and help neutralise free radicals.
  • Cardiac Support - Nutrients which contribute to maintaining health of the cardiac muscle.
  • Electrolyte Balance - Potassium, magnesium and sodium content adapted to help support dogs with chronic heart insufficiency.
  • Low Sodium - Low sodium diets reduce the retention of water and sodium which are associated with cardiac disease. This significant restriction enables the veterinarian to choose a reasoned sodium supplement when required.

Pets with cardiac disease are more prone to oxidative stress. Free radicals are cytotoxic and have a negative inotropic effect. Polyphenols, thanks to their antioxidant properties, significantly minimise the deleterious effects of free radicals. Moreover, they have an antihypertensive action (Duarte 2001), by stimulating the endogenous production of nitric oxide (a local vasodilator).

Some products, such as insulin and frozen food, need to be delivered in insulated packaging to prevent them from getting too warm (or too cold) during transit from us to you. Purchasing any of these items in your order will result in a £1.99 charge being added to the total to cover the high cost of the insulated packaging materials. You only pay the £1.99 once per order, regardless of how many temperature controlled items you purchase in that order.

Q & A

How to feed

Dachshund owner

My vet has prescribed Royal Canine Cardiac dry food for my dog. Coould you please advise me how to feed it. Do I add water to it, or serve it dry - and does it need something else like a slice of Nature Diet. With many thanks.

  • Non-Executive Director

Ideally you do not give any other food as that will upset the balance of nutrients the diet is trying to achieve. You can give it dry (most people do) or add water, whatever your dog prefers it. You must make sure water is available at all times. This sort of diet is rarely as enjoyable to eat as good quality wet diets, so you might find that your dog eats it without any enjoyment and not in great quantities. This is not a medical concern (in fact lots of dogs need to lose weight and so eating less is a good thing). However it can be difficult for caring owners to accept, regardless of being healthier.
