Description

Protexin CystoPro has been developed to encourage urinary tract health. Infections may occur when bacteria attach and multiply along the urinary tract.

CystoPro contains an active ingredient derived from cranberries which is in a class of antioxidants called Proanthocyanidins (PACs).

  • CystoPro also contains probiotics, prebiotics and N-acetyl D-glucosamine.

CystoPro combines 4 innovative ingredients and is chicken flavoured to increase effectiveness and palatability.

Benefits

  • Proanthocyanidins (Type A PACs) - Proanthocyanidins are naturally occurring powerful antioxidants extracted from the North American cranberry. Type A PACs have been shown to inhibit the ability of E.coli to attach to the urothelium, thereby preventing bacterial adherence, colonisation and infection
  • Probiotic - The EU-registered strain Enterococcus faecium (NCIMB 10415) E1707 acts to reduce pathogenic bacteria within the gastrointestinal tract thereby reducing the risk of ascending UTIs of faecal origin
  • Mannan-oligosaccharide - Created from purified yeast cell walls, Mannan-oligosaccharide (MOS), binds E.coli and upregulates the innate immune system by attracting phagocytes to opsonise the bacteria. MOS is commonly used as a prebiotic to support intestinal microflora
  • N-acetyl D-glucosamine - N-acetyl D-glucosamine is a precursor to Chondroitin sulphate and Keratin sulphate which make up the Glycosaminoglycan (GAG) layer that lines and protects the sensitive bladder urothelium. A strong, resilient GAG layer prevents bacteria from adhering to the urothelial cells
  • Artificial Chicken Flavour - To improve palatability and compliance

Cystine stones

Petra

Hello,

Can this product be used after an operation for the removal of a cystine stone to also prevent any UTIs?
My dog had both, struvite and cystine.
The cystine stone was just removed surgically and the struvite psssed out alone.
Thanks!

  • VioVet Staff

This supplement contains ingredients to help support normal bladder function and repair. It does not alter the urine itself in order to prevent the formation of certain types of stones. The best way to do this is with special veterinary diets. We recommend contacting your vet to discuss which diet would be most suitable for prevention for your pet, many of these can then be purchase directly through our website.

Kidney issues?

Helen

I have a 14 year old dog with kidney issues who is on a renal diet. She is also on Librela. This last year she has suffered from several UTIs and is thought to have bladder stones. Would this product be safe for her?

  • VioVet Staff

This depends on the severity of your dog's kidney disease. Whilst the ingredients within CystoPro should not have a direct negative impact on the kidneys, they may interfere with a special kidney diet and so it is worth running it's use past your vet to be safe.

Cystopro

Samantha morgan

My 11 week old Doberman bitch has had two uti’s since we’ve had her can she have this profuct

  • VioVet Staff

CystoPro is a great idea to help support the urinary tract of your dog. It can help prevent repeat problems like UTis. I recommend following your vets advise closely though on what other specific treatments may be required.

Can this be used as a preventive measure against urinary stones in

Elizabeth Gray

  • VioVet customer since 2017
  • From: Durham , United Kingdom

Can this be used as a preventive measure against urinary stones in A Dalmatian that had recently had a U.T.I but has not been diagnosed as being a stone former?

  • VioVet Staff

This supplement will help promote good overall urinary tract health and may help prevent UTIs in the future but it is unlikely to stop your dog forming Urate stones. I would recommend a low purine diet such as Royal Canin Canine Veterinary (Clinical) Diets Urinary U/C UUC 18 Low Purine Dog Food as the best thing to help prevent stones.

Ear infection

Lel

Will these work for a dogs ear infection

  • VioVet Staff

This product is specifically formulated to combat urinary tract disorders so will likley have no effect of helping with an ear infection. I would recommend something such as TrizAural which is formulated for ears.

Ear infections can be tricky to treat so don't hesitate to visit your vets if you feel you are not winning with non prescription treatments.

When to use product

Mark

Hi,
I wonder if you can tell me if this is an ongoing treatment everyday or do you use this product when signs of a uti are occurring, our 10 year old siberian husky is prone to uti's since a mistake at our vets few years back and usually gets baytril to get rid of uti,but I'm looking at options to help him control this by trying to keep bacteria at bay and eliminating the possibility of further uti's. Many thanks Mark!!!

  • VioVet Staff

Protexin advise that CystoPro can be given for as long as necessary. Looking at the ingredients I can't see any reason why it shouldn't be given long term and should be perfectly safe given daily. It is difficult to predict but CystoPro may well help to prevent further UTI's in your dog so would certainly be worth a try.

Is it affective for a urine infection

Julie Wilkins

  • VioVet customer since 2016
  • From: West Midlands, United Kingdom

My 12 yr old Doberman bitch is in her 2nd week of season and she's drinking a lot and weeing a lot more she even weed in the house which she's disgusted in herself for lol but other than that she dnt seem ill she's eating drinking sleeping the same her nose is cold so I'm wondering if these will help her as taking her to the vets stresses her out so much I've orderd one lot of these pills anyway I'm just waiting for them to arrive

  • VioVet Staff

My main concern would be that your bitch is developing an infection in her uterus (womb). This is even possible if she has been spayed, though is much less likely. I would have to say that the best thing would be to take her to the vet for a check over. This would become very important if she goes off her food, vomits, or has any sort of abnormal vaginal discharge. You might be right that this is a problem which will pass by itself in time but there is a distinct possibility she is starting to become ill. If so, the sooner this is acted upon, the better the chances of a successful outcome. Uterine infections can be very serious.

What's this medication protein levels?

Leon Wilson

  • VioVet customer since 2015
  • From: Caerdydd, United Kingdom

Is this product suitable for a dog that has a liver shunt and is on a low protein diet?

  • VioVet Staff

There is very little protein in this product and it should be perfectly safe for your dog if given at the normal rates.

Is it for incontinence

Jack

My 14 year old dog as incontenance will this capsule help him

  • VioVet Staff

There is a chance that it will help, but it is unlikely to be the complete answer. There can be a combination of reasons why elderly dogs become incontinent, but ascending bacterial infections are sometimes a secondary consequence of the underlying problem, which then make it worse. This product can help with some aspects of bacterial infection and so can help limit the extent of that part of the problem. Essentially it would be safe to try them and see if they help. They might do, but are unlikely to be a complete answer.

Cystopro

Michelle Forrest

When is the best time to take cystopro and can it be taken with gabapentin

  • VioVet Staff

This product has not been specifically tested for use along with gabapentin, but it is very unlikely that this combination will result in any additional risk of adverse reaction.

One dose of Cystopro is effective for up to 24 hours so the timing of the dose is not important, as long as it is given regularly at about the same time of day.
