Helping to restore healthy gut flora, Protexin Bio-Premium is a well renowned digestion aid benefiting from the inclusion of healthy prebiotics designed to promote the growth of desirable bacteria and microflora within the gut. This enhances the ability to digest food and absorb nutrients. Suitable to be administered on a daily basis, Protexin Bio-Premium can promote sustained digestive efficiency and therefore improve natural immunity, particularly during stressful times when immunity can be compromised.
A powder formulation containing probiotics, prebiotics and yeast to encourage normal digestive function and efficiency. This new formula also contains L-glutamine and L-threonine which act to improve your pet's gastrointestinal finction.
Bio-Premium for Dogs acts to re-establish a healthy gut microflora and to aid digestion. The beneficial microorganisms occur naturally in the gut of healthy animals and act to re-establish the disrupted gut, thus promoting the mechanism of competitive exclusion against potential pathogenic bacteria. The inclusion of prebiotics acts to selectively feed beneficial microorganisms within the gut thus enhancing colonisation and growth. This product has been formulated to be administered on a continuous basis to promote efficient digestion and boost natural immunity at times of stress when digestive upsets may occur.

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding Protexin Bio-Premium for Dogs, including answers from our team.
How long does it take to get into dogs system before it starts to work and notice a better and healthier dog breath.
A probiotic such as this would start to work at restoring the gut flora from the first dose. How long it takes until you see a difference depends on the dog and their individual condition. Bio-Premium is designed to promote a healthy gut though so is not likely to help your dogs breath.
Just bought some enterogenic sachets and vet recommending bio premium. Can you specify the difference please? Thanks
Hi Joyce, thank you for your question.
Both products are for ongoing use, though the main difference between the Enterogenic and Bio-Premium is that the Enterogenic is a generally more concentrated formula for chronic conditions, such as inflammatory bowel problems and continuous diarrhoea, whereas the Bio-Premium is for more everyday support of gastrointestinal health and function, and is often used if an animal has digestive problems. We would however always recommend consulting your vet before trying a different product.
Could you please kindly let me know what is the difference between the two. I intend to get a daily probiotics supplement for my three bichons who are aged 16, 14 & 14. All of them have slightly elevated liver enzymes and one of them has Cushings. Could you please let me know which one to choose. Many thanks
Both these supplements would actually be suitable and would be helpful. However these supplements are more often used where there has been a gut dysbiosis (disruption to the gut flora causing diarrhoea etc) and the normal gut flora needs to be restored. Protexin Pro-Fibre would probably be more appropriate if just need a good daily probiotic supplement.
Is this a powder that gets put in their food, and can they taste it, because my EPI dog is very wary about things in his food.
Yes this powder does go in the food. Protexin are probably the leading manufacturer of probiotics and they do strive to make all their products as palatable as possible. Many people give this supplement to their dogs and I haven't heard of any palatability issues. That said some dogs are more fussy than others. I would probably start with buying the small 150g tub and add a very small amount to begin with gradually building up to the recommended dose for your dogs weight.
My 8 month old dog Ahmad a sensitive stomach she is fed Arden grange sensitive dry/tin. And has selected array of treats which I know she can tolerate. Mainly fish based. She gets bouts of semi loose/soft stools. Which hs been normal for her. But if she manages to eat anything she's never had before she gets D++ very quickly. Now I always have protexin prokolin paste or similar to hand as always needed and normally gets her stools back to normal. Or semi normal. On the odd occasion she has had to have antibiotics when paste alone isn't enough. Would the bio-premium be something to help her gut function istead of the prokolin paste or would she need it in conjunction with it. Probiotics are not covered in her insurance so we've spent a small fortune on the paste so looking for something similar that I can use as and when needed.
Protexin Bio-Premium would certainly help with her gut function although it is intended to be given as a daily supplement where gut dysbiosis is the cause of the diarrhoea. Although it may cost more in the long run than using Protexin Pro-Kolin as and when diarrhoea occurs you may find that the bouts of diarrhoea are much less frequent. The other product to consider is Protexin Pro-Fibre which is intended as a daily supplement for dogs that are otherwise healthy but have a tendency to produce loose stools.
I have a 9 year old sbt/jrt who has ALWAYS had bad breath. Vet has checked his teeth and said they are not bad for his age and in fact he had them cleaned and descaled a couple of months ago but even this didnt help. I have been told that his bad breath could be coming from his gut, rather than his mouth/teeth. Would this product help?
This would be a good product to try. Sometimes dogs get bad breath due to licking their anal glands if they tend to get a bit full and uncomfortable which leads to unpleasant breath. This product will not only promote the correct gut flora but may firm up his faeces a bit and help to empty his anal glands without him needing to lick them (if of course this is what he is doing). Either way I would give this product a try and see how you get on. Daily teeth cleaning with dog specific toothpaste may be helpful too.
My 4 year old Tibetan terrier has lost over 1 kg in weight through an acute outburst of pancreatitis nearly two months ago. The various blood test during and after this episode revealed that he does not suffer from epi or diabetes. Still he struggles to put the weight back on despite the increase in his food amount. He is otherwise fine in himself. So I wondered if the protexin would help to put his weight back on?
Depending on the severity of the pancreatitis there may also have been some inflammation of other organs in the abdomen and disruption of gut flora. This may well take some time to settle down. The Protexin Bio-Premium will help to re-establish healthy gut flora and allow your dog to more efficiently digest and absorb the nutrients he needs, in turn helping to put his weight back on. In some cases however, a leaner dog is preferable to avoid high levels of fat in the blood and a subsequent pancreatitis. It may also be worth checking your dog is up to date with worming as this is another common cause for weight loss or not putting on weight.
Could you list the ingredients in this product please? My dog is on an elimination diet - white fish & potato for undiagnosed and ongoing stomach problems, and I think including pro and prebiotics might help, but I just need to know full ingredients.
The ingredients are as follows. They should not interfere with the exclusion diet you are using for your dog.
Brewers' yeast, L-glutamine (30%), Preplex prebiotic (Fructo-oligosaccharide) Amino acid: L-threonine (12%)
Enterococcus faecium (DSM 10663/ NCIMB 10415) 4b1707
2 x 1011 CFU/kg; 2 x 108 CFU/g
Kaolin, Preplex prebiotic - Acacia (Gum arabic)
Is it safe yo take with Palladia & steroids?
It is perfectly safe to give this product along with Palladia & steroids.
My daughter has a 6 month old cocker spaniel puppy who is fed on raw food and orijen. He seems to have soft/loose stools at times and the vet recommend pro/prebiotics. Do you think this product would be suitable?
This is just the sort of product your vet intended and I would agree it seems very appropriate for this dog.
