35 Good bandage but not good for my puppy
Verified Purchase

By on 13 June 2023

The bandage stayed on my puppy's leg really well but unfortunately the cut on his leg became swollen overnight and it was very difficult to remove the bandage quickly. My poor puppy became quite aggressive whilst I was clearly hurting him. Probably best used for sprains and strains to support the leg rather than wounds.

I encountered this at my emergency vet's practice. Anything which discourages chewing a bandage off has to be tried and is much better than the cone of shame.

This is so useful I always carry some with me on my daily dog walks, along with some light linen bandage. I recently used it on a friend's dog's paw mid-walk. It got us safely home without having to carry him. It sticks well to itself and can even be used again if washed out in soapy water and rinsed. Don't rely on it too much at a joint though, as it slips down. An overwrap of sellotape also helps as when it gets muddy it no longer sticks to itself very well. A sellotape overwrap helps then. Dog doesn't seem to bite at it, so saves the horrible collar. It seems you can achieve no chew also with lemon juice and in my case, Manuka honey as she hates the taste!

45 Sticks well but isn't no chew

I've bought other cohesive bandages but they don't 'self-stick' as well as this product.
It doesn't actually stop my dog from biting the bandage though, so the 'no chew' part isn't accurate where my dog is concerned.

Suitable for chinchilla leg wound?

Natalie

My chinchilla has a bad leg wound and 2 surgeries haven't fixed it and after 3 weeks wearing a collar she is so miserable. Would these be suitable for her leg wound to cover it?

  • VioVet Staff

Bandage material like this is great at protecting wounds however it should only be used under veterinary guidance or training. This is because bandages can very easily be put on too tight and so interfere with the wound healing. I advise discussing the management of your Chinchillas specific wound with your vet.

Green Dye toxic or not?

Elena

Hello, I have been using No Chew for years, This time around with a bird who still chews it anyway. Not a big problem but she ends up ingesting as she has the color in her mouth the greenish dye from the no chew sign in the bandage. Is the dye potentially toxic?

  • VioVet Staff

Hello,

Having spoken to the suppliers, they have assured me that this is not toxic.

Hope that helps,

VioVet.
