Very good for being able to keep my larador’s weight in check. But if we were going to agility classes/competitions I would switch to a higher energy product for 2/3 days prior

But I'm annoyed with Pero for the recent price rise despite the reduction of the contents in the bag. Used to be 15kg but now 12 kg despite this the company have increased the price.

Food

gary

hi is the pero range a moist food or hard as looking for a softer food for my dog thanks

  • VioVet Staff

I believe it's hard food, if you would like a softer kibble you can use warm water or dog-friendly bone broth to rehydrate the kibble before feeding.

Please advise appropriate changes in diet for my 7.5 yrs old King Charles (female) Spaniel

Rosie's mum

Rosie is my beautiful Ruby Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. I have tried (unsuccessfully!) to keep her weight down since having her spayed but as she now weighs in at 11.5 kg I am concerned that this excess weight is putting a strain on her joints in addition to the heart murmur that she has developed over recent years. I currently feed her a high quality weight management kibble, plus she enjoys a dish of lightly cooked mixed veg in the evening. Treats are always welcomed and I am sure have contributed to the problem! I wonder would a change of diet be too radical at her age? Thank you.

  • VioVet Staff

A 7 and a 1/2 year old CKCS is still classed as middle aged so I would not worry about making any dietary changes now. You can stay on your current food and reduce the amount you feed, feeding for the ideal weight rather than the current weight. Your vet or vet nurse can help you work out what her ideal weight is if you need.
Reducing the amount of treats/human leftovers you give is also a very good idea as these tend to be high in fat.
If you are still struggling then a low calorie or weight loss diet is a good idea. The Pero Low Calorie diet is a good choice. If you would like further advice on other weight loss diets then please contact us on [email protected].
