Has Pero changed the ingredients of there Pero SBT chicken food?

I only ask because I have emailed Pero Foods Ltd 4 times over a period of three weeks but have not received a reply, which is a bit worrying.

My problem is, up until recently both of my Staffys have been enjoying the Pero SBT chicken food until through a process of elimination, the last opened bag of food where it seems aparant that my two year old girl staffy has had an allergic reaction.

She has had as a result, daily new hives appearing, fur loss and been rolling around on her back snaking across the room itching.

Which has led me to see the vets who prescribed her steroids and a specialist shampoo, then I have through a process of elimination given her piriton, stopped treats and changed the washing detergent to a non bio to no avail until I bought and gave her a different food.

Within one week of doing this the hives stopped appearing alongside with her itching stopping, to me it points out she has had an allergic reaction to the SBT chicken food.

Which leads me to ask if anyone has experienced the same problem or has known if the ingredients have been changed

I even wondered if the food may of been cross contaminated, all of which I have asked Pero Foods Ltd and as said earlier received no reply?

It really suits my two staffy's, they used to make really bad smells, they definitely don't smell as bad after changing to this product and they don't get fed up with it so it must taste good

Have been using peros lamb and rice food for ages and my staffy loves it, switched to SBT as wondered if it would be more suitable....well after a number of weeks on it, I noticed he was passing wind a lot more and it really stank. After reading the ingredients more carefully I noticed it had dried egg powder in it, which might be the cause of his stinky bum, so suffice to say we have switched back to peros other products!!

Q & A

Nutrients

Alfie boy.

Is Alfie boy lacking certain nutrients in his food as we court him picking up his poo once.

  • VioVet Staff

Some dogs (especially young ones) will eat some of their own or other dogs' pooh on occasions. Indeed for some it becomes a habit, revolting though it seems to us. It actually does them no harm generally and in the wild, it would be completely normal for them to eat some herbivore pooh quite often. That is probably instinctive behaviour designed to add certain nutrients to the diet, but it does not happen because they feel short of something. It is more akin to a person who likes to eat something sweet - it just tastes nice. If your dog is not digesting the food very well, it might still taste like it is worth eating to your dog, so switching to a different diet might help, but this is trial and error. If it has happened just once, I would not worry about it. If it persists, switching to a diet with different base ingredients (read the labels) might help.

Bea

Why is the SBT food so much more than the Labrador one?

  • VioVet Staff

(At the time of writing) The Staffordshire Bull Terrier 12kg bag is £28.43 which works out to be £2.36 per kilogram.

The Pero Labrador Life is currently available in two sizes:

2.5kg bag for £7.38 (£2.90 per kilogram)

15kg bag for £37.72 (£2.51 per kilogram)

Unfortunately there isn't a 12kg bag of Labrador Life to compare directly to the Staffordshire 12kg but the sizes available are a similar price per kilogram. Bigger bags usually work out to be cheaper per kilogram than smaller bags of the same food. I hope this helps.
