PURINA UR Formula contains tailored ingredients for the management of canine urinary tract complaints which can often have a detrimental affect on other aspects of a dog's health. The diet contains a concentrated balance of highly digestible, wholesome ingredients that will nourish your dog whilst discouraging the formation of struvite crystals. These often develop in the urinary tract and through the advanced potassium formula of veterinary UR, struvite crystals are dissolved, thereby reducing any signs of discomfort. There is also a moderate level of protein which minimises the availability of food for the bacteria which are commonly associated with urinary stones.

Ask Your Own Question

Good for long term use of older dogs?

29th Oct 2013

My dog is 7 years old. She had struvite (magnesium phosphate ) stones removed from the urine bladder.
I heard this food is ok, but because it is salty, it is not ment for long term use in fear of heart problems.
Is it true?

  • Non-Executive Director

Excessive dietary intake of salt might possibly increase the risk of kidney disease in dogs, perhaps more than heart disease. Therefore theoretically it is worth avoiding if possible. I believe that the salt levels in this diet are higher than the ideal in normal circumstances, but the risk of further struvite problems is a much bigger concern now than any possible consequences of an increased sodium intake. On balance, I would advise that this diet is suitable for long-term use for your dog, but you should also discuss this with your own vet.
