My recent rescue a four year old breeding bichon, who had been ‘normal’ for eight weeks suddenly had four seizures in 15 hours, diagnosed as idiopathic epilepsy, now on Phenobarbitone, this food was recommended by her specialist and on reading the reviews I had to give it a go. She loves it, early days as yet (3weeks) but to date there have been no more seizures, I will certainly keep her on this food.

Which one to feed

Geoffrey Thompson

Which one is most suitable for my dog who suffers seizures with epilepsy. Vet as advised us to go on this food for him but not sure which one to buy .
Can you advise please.

  • VioVet Staff

The Purina Pro Plan NeuroCare (NC) diet is the perfect one for your epileptic dog, this is it's intended use. Research performed by the Royal Veterinary College demonstrated that diets rich in medium-chain triglycerides (MCT) can reduce seizure frequency. The NeuroCare diet was specifically formulated with this in mind. It is important to keep up your dog's normal seizure treatment plan and medications though. You should chat to your vet before changing the doseage or starting any new diets like this.

Size of kibble

I have been recommended Purina Pro Plan NC for my 1Kilo weight Chihuahua who has epilepsy. Can you please advise the size of the kibble as she has tiny teeth and missing teeth. She needs very small kibble.

Thank you

  • VioVet Staff

Thank you for your enquiry.

The kibble is roughly the size of a 20 pence coin.

I hope that helps,
