45 Half love it

Two of my cats live it. Two will have nothing to do with it. So maybe it could be made to be more palpatable to a larger range of cats. Or made to be a little softer. It is fairly hard for a 'soft chew'.

55 Great product and cat loves them

I've been using these chews for about 6 months on the recommendation of my vet. My cat has FHV and had been getting recurring eye issues. She hasn't had any major issues since starting on the chews and, just as importantly, she loves them.

My cat has a sensitive stomach and unfortunately these chews gave him the runs. Shame because he did enjoy them!

55 very effective product

I purchased this product for my cat who is a herpes carrier. she has had an eye ulcer for 4 months. All this time she has been under 2 vets. Firstly with numerous expensive eye drops then blood serum drops. After being on extremely expensive human anti viral tablets for 5 weeks I purchased this product and within 4 days her eye was open and apart from a scab that she has to have an operation to remove tomorrow, her eye is looking very good. I will keep her on these now for the rest of her life.

55 Maintenance of herpes virus
Verified Purchase

By on 27 March 2016

All of our cats are strays and despite them being vaccinated, all of them have recurring bouts of the herpes virus which tends to attack their eyes making them weepy. In one of our cats, three winters running she developed indolent eye ulcers which just would not heal and she ended up with an operation to remove the ulcer and then stitch her third eyelid together to aid healing. The next winter she developed yet another ulcer which, fortunately, did not require an operation but In the aftermath, I decided to give these a go. Combined with the eye lubricant we have successfully managed over twelve months without an ulcer. Some days she will not eat the treats but most of the time she will. I have put one of my other cats on them as a precaution and you can always tell when he hasn't had it as his eye weeps terribly. Overall I am very pleased. Anything which can help to manage the virus without veterinary intervention is preferable.

Recommended dose for weaned kittens

Scot

what's the youngest age a kitten can consume the treats and will they just need half a treat?

  • VioVet Staff

These can be given to kittens as soon as they are weaned. They only need half a treat at a time when very young and not every day at first. You can gradually increase how much they have as they get bigger, but the exact amount is not critical.

Optixcare L-Lysine Chews for Cats

Louise

Can these be given to any cat or are they just for cats who have been diagnosed with feline herpes (my cat gets frequent eye infections which the vet treats with drops but he has not said what is causing them)

  • VioVet Staff

These chews can be given to all cats and they might well be beneficial for your cat. It might be worth asking your vet first, but I am sure they would be safe.
