Cost about half what the vet would have charged, although, of course, I get ripped for the prescription. Very quick turn-round in receiving medication. Will use again for sure

Milpro

Nala

Does this protect my dog against flea and ticks? My vet said it does but it doesn’t seem like that when I read the description online ?

  • VioVet Staff

Milpro contains Milbemax and Praziquantel which treats roundworms (including lungworm) and tapeworm. It does not cover fleas or ticks.
If you would like advice on products to protect against these then please get in touch at [email protected] so we can advise, or chat to your vet.

Milpro

Claire

Hi my cockerpoo puppy is 9 months old do I give him x 2 2.5mg/25mg every 3 months or can I give him x 1 2.5mg/25mg every month ?

  • VioVet Staff

The dose according to the datasheet is dependant on weight rather than age, you should dose according to this. This is a prescription only medication so you should contact your vet for guidance on doseage though as they will need to prescribe this for your pet.

Milpro dose

Terri

I have a 10kg 8 month puppy and 13.5 Yr old 12kg both tibetain terror and I worm monthly because of lung worm can I give them 1/2 a tablet each month
Older dog has cancer and immune issues
puppy healthy should grow to same size as older dog

  • VioVet Staff

You should dose according to the datasheet and alongside what your vet advises. The dose for the adult size tablet for a 10kg and a 12kg dog is 1 tablet each. If wanting to protect against lungworm it will need to be dosed monthly.
If your pet has any medical conditions then you should discuss this further with your vet, this is a prescription only medication and so they will need to prescribe it to you.

Lungworm

Jodie

How often should milpro be taken to be effective and treat lungworm? My dog takes it every 3 months currently which is what I though was the recommended time but I have been told it needs to be monthly for lungworm.

  • VioVet Staff

In order to prevent against clinical lungworm infection then milbemycin oxime needs to be used monthly. Your dog can still ingest lungworm larvae in the interim between doses but monthly dosing ensures this never turns into a clinical infection, which is what you are aiming to avoid.

Doseage for 6 month pup

Sheila

I have purchased 1 milprazon adult tablet 5-25kgs. My pup is 6 months old and weighs 6.90kgs. Instead of giving her a whole tablet can I administer half a tablet as one dose?

  • VioVet Staff

This is a prescription only medication so you should follow your vets advice on doseage as per your prescription. Your 6.9kg pup will need 1 adult tablet according to the datasheet per dose.

Milpro and other medicines

Mrs Phelan

My dog takes Atopica medication for immune mediated anaemia is Milpro wormer safe to be given to my dog whilst on this medication.

  • VioVet Staff

There are no contraindications on the data sheet with regards to using this wormer with Atopica. However your vet will need to prescribe it to you so you should discuss this with them to be safe.

Lungworm

Mrs Bentley

I have a 6 month old Golden Retriever puppy who likes to eat anything and everything! I am therefore greatly concerned about the surge in potentially-fatal lungworm. I believe in regular worming and he had his last worming tablet on 25th May. His regular worming tablet is Drontal Dog XL (he weighs 31kg), however, I do not believe this protects him against lungworm. Can he therefore have a Milpro tablet - which I understand does protect against lungworm - in addition to the Drontal tablet, even though he's within the 3 month timescale? Many thanks.

  • VioVet Staff

Yes you can use Milpro even though you only wormed with Drontal a few weeks ago. It is recommended to use either Milpro or Drontal though as they will both cover roundworms/tapeworms. Milpro if used monthly will prevent adult lungworm infestation. It is a prescription only medication so you will need a script from your vet to purchase it with us.

Milpro and Pancreatitis

Christopher Bennett

  • VioVet customer since 2013
  • From: Greater Manchester, United Kingdom

Is Milpro safe to use on dogs suffering from Pancreatitis. If so, what dose should be given for a dog weighing 11kg? and how often.

  • VioVet Staff

Pancreatitis is not a listed contraindication for Milpro and it should be safe to use a normal dose. An 11kg dog will need 1 adult size tablet, monthly to cover lungworm or every 3 months for standard worming.
However it is a prescription only medication and I am not aware of the full clinical history of your dog. If there is a liver condition also playing a role then sometimes dose reductions are required. It is best to discuss the doseage with your vet as they will have to prescribe you this wormer anyway.

Heartworm protection

jane richards

Does Milpro protect against heartworm in all its stages. We travel to Spain with Sooty and want to be sure it protects against all round, flat, nematode as well as tape worm and lungworm. We live in Scotland and I'm aware that lungworm is prevalent here. We have previously used Advocate spot on, Drontal for tape worm and Scalibor for ticks, Mosquitoes and Phlebotomus species, carriers of Leishmaniasis. If Sooty has Milpro and Seresto collar what should we use against the Mosquitoes and phlebotomus, sand flies?

  • VioVet Staff

Yes Milpro will prevent against roundworms (including heartworm and lungworm), as well as tapeworms, if used monthly.
Seresto collars are licensed to prevent against fleas/lice/ticks. I have contacted the manufacturers and they have advised the collar will also prevent against sand flies. There is no data to show if Seresto is effective against mosquitos but theoretically it should have some effectiveness as the active ingredient flumethrin is similar to other mosquito preventatives.
The main issue with mosquitos is the transfer of heartworm so if you are preventing against this with Milpro then this should not be an issue anyway.
