Pelham Bits

The Pelham Bit, designed originally to fit most horses' mouths in cavalry units, features both a Snaffle and Curb Bit action to increase the versatility of the bit. The shanks and curb chain apply the leverage of a Curb Bit, but the rings on either side of the mouthpiece are reminiscent of the Snaffle Bit. The Pelham Bit utilises 'double reins,' which allows for more sophisticated responses, for example engaging the curb chain applies pressure to the poll. This complex design amounts to a bit which affects many parts of the horse's head. This bit is used for polo, English and Western disciplines, as well as some driving.
