I bought these after a summer of chasing my laminatic pony around the fields because she won't come in for love nor money once she gets 24-hour turnout. So, despite my pledge to only use natural horsemanship methods with her, I decided a different approach was needed and decided to go in for a bit of the old operant conditioning, by giving her treats when she deigned to come in, and building up a positive association with her that way.

Banana seemed like a novel flavour (different from the usual carrot, apple or mint), so I decided to give them a go.

They arrived looking appetising in their packaging, which certainly had a picture of some bananas on. When I opened the packet to take out the first couple to put in my pocket, I got a waft of the scent. So far, so good I thought. I hadn't heeded the words emblazoned in a vertical stripe down the front, however: "Hand flavoured".

So, I started to give them to her routinely; one once she let me put her headcollar on her, once after I sprayed her with fly spray, and then one after I led her back into the field. I soon found that far from running away at the sight of me, she began to whicker and call to me as she saw me approaching up the lane, and waiting impatiently for me by the fence or gate. But after a while, it began to seem like the treat biscuit wasn't enough. She wanted to take my fingers, or my whole hand, into her mouth as well. I seem to have a zombie pony with a taste for human flesh. Use with caution or it could happen to you, too!

We were introduced to these when a friend offered one to our horse. It was clear she loved them and this horse is very fussy and turns her nose up at most treats! Banana flavour works every time
