Q & A

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding Lillidale Skin Ointment, including answers from our team.

Itchy skin her belly

A. Leslie

My dog gets this allergic reaction every summer to grass mites I think, and is on prescribed tablets. However this year she is still scratching despite the tablets Prednisocone 5mg from what I can make out on the bottle. I would like some soothing cream/spray to put on to help her, as I don't really want to take her to the vet if I can avoid it as she finds it very frightening. I have tea tree skin calm by Johnsons at the moment. Any suggestions?

  • VioVet Staff

Creams like the tea tree product and this Lillidale ointment work to just help soothe the site, they will not necessarily reduce the itch. This may be enough for some patients though.
If your dog is not reponding to the current dose of medication he is on then it is worth seieing your vet if this persists. It may be that a slightly higher dose is needed or that another medication may be more suitable.
I also recommend checking out our blog on allergies, link provided here. There are many supplement products you can try that are more specifically targeted at allergies.

Treatment for dog's lips

HG

Would this product help sores on dog's lips?

  • VioVet Staff

This ointment can be used on intact skin but it should not be ingested in large quantities. If the lips are affected then it may be best to use a product that is safe for use in the mouth such as Dentisept. Ideally you should see a vet to diagnose the cause of the skin sores as the treatment may vary depending on this.

Can this be used on my dog's nose?

Alicia

My dog occassionally has a dry nose andvwe have previously used a coal tar based product to help but we can't remember the name of the product.

  • VioVet Staff

Yes this cream can be used on the nose. If your dog tends to lick this straight off though then I would avoid using it here, it shouldn't be ingested in large quantities.

My black miniature Poodle

kath

She has round patches of very dry crusty patches on her skin also she has lump like teenage spots. I’ve tried Malasab shampoo from the vets but it’s not helping

  • VioVet Staff

Lillidale Skin Ointment will help soothe any irritations but is not formulated to treat any infections. 'Spots' in dogs are usually tiny pustules that are often infectious in origin, I recommend following your vet's advice on how to treat them.
