Chocolate lab - pacemaker fitted 4 weeks ago

Mrs White

My chocolate lab had a pacemaker fitted, have purchased this collar, size 8’’ to protect from scratch king neck area.

He’s 38/40kg, from ear to shoulder blade is around 7/8’’ have I chooses the correct size?.

Many thanks

  • VioVet Staff

Based on the Depth measurement you have taken of 7 or 8 inches your dog will need either the 7 or 8 inch neck collar. It is usually best to go larger and looser rather than too tight so yes the 8 inch collar would be the correct one to try.
The collar may not be appropriate for the surgical site you describe though. It's intended use isn't to cover and protect the neck but to reduce neck movement and so prevent licking of the body area. You should discuss it's use with your vet before using the product.

Tallulah Kitten

Are these collars suitable for covering a thyroidectomy incision? Definitely don’t want to use a cone of shame but finding it hard to source an alternative that will protect her neck whilst healing

  • VioVet Staff

This depends on the exact location of the incision site for the thyroidectomy. Usually this is just at the level of the neck, which this collar should cover. However your vet may apply specific bandaging or advise not using a collar like this as it could put pressure on the incision site. I advise discussing the use of the collar with the surgeon who is performing the procedure first.

Hip replacement surgery ?

Jane Wilson

My 11 month old Bouvier des Flandres ( 20kg approx) has to have a total hip replacement. Would this collar prevent him from being able to lick his stitches on his hip ? Also how quickly can you dispatch ... UK
Many thanks

  • VioVet Staff

This collar is best used to protect the body area from being licked. It can prevent licking of the upper back legs but this is not guaranteed, I recommend using a BUSTER collar for this to be safe.
If the collar you order is in stock then we can dispatch same day for next day delivery, however if we need to order this from our supplier then this adds 1 extra working day to the delivery time. The estimated dates of delivery are given at checkout when choosing your delivery option.

Help with sore dog neck

k black

dog got sore neck - xrays all fine & on pain killers will this help keep his neck steady for healing? (symptoms seem to point to : cervical disc herniation)

  • VioVet Staff

This collar is intended to prevent your dog from licking/bite their body area (such as after a neutering procedure). It is not intended for use in stabilising the neck, however it could potentially be used in this way. I would seek your vets advice to ensure it is safe for this use.

Clevical collar

Willl this stop a dog getting to its front feet?

  • VioVet Staff

This is not suitable to stop your licking his front feet. I would advise a cone shaped collar, such as the BUSTER Anti Scratch Collar, for this use.
