Q & A

Lactating ewes

dave merriman

is it safe to use Ivomectin in lactating ewes as a treatment for coccidiosis?

  • VioVet Staff

IVOMEC Classic Injection for Cattle and Sheep can be administered to
cows and ewes at any stage of pregnancy or lactation provided that the
milk is not intended for human consumption. Ivomec contains Ivermectin though which is not effective against coccidia, I recommend using a coccidiostat wormer instead. Vecoxan is an over the counter coccidia treatment but it is intended for use in lambs/calves, coccidia is not a disease that normally affects adult ewes significantly. I recommend discussing treating the condition with your vet as prescription medications may be required.

Using for dogs

Hello!
Can this product be used for dogs?
Thank you

  • VioVet Staff

The active ingredient, Ivermectin, can be used in some breeds of dog safely but Ivomec is only licensed for use in cattle and sheep. This means any use in dogs is off license, I recommend contacting your vet for off license medication advice.
