I found this product to be expensive but having used it once it does seem to be effective. It is not to be sprayed directly onto your pet but although Banquo did wander into the sprayed area later in the day it did seem to affect him which was good.

Q & A

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding Indorex Defence Spray, including answers from our team.

Sarcoptic mites

Pat

Hi does this work onsarcoptic mites as my Tibetian terrier really suffers
If not please can you let me know what gets rid of the little blitters many thanks he’s is chewing his feet and crying. Has Nexgard Spectra off the vets monthly

  • VioVet Staff

Indorex is not labelled specifically for use against the sacroptes mite but the ingredients within are effective against it so it should have some efficacy.
It is worth noting thought that Indorex is only safe for use on the environment and not directly on your pet. Treatment for sacroptic mange usually involves oral or spot on products administered directly onto your dog. I strongly advise seeing your vet for this rather than trying to treat over the counter. This is especially important if the mite has not been diagnosed by your vet, there are many other causes to the signs you describe.
NexGard Spectra does cover and treat sarcoptic mange and an infestation is unlikely if your pet has already been on this.

Effect on chinchillas

Reg

Is this safe to use around chinchillas if I remove them from the room during treatment etc? Will they be OK to be returned to the room a couple of hours after treatment?

  • VioVet Staff

If Indorex is used as per the label then there are no issues with letting your pets, including Chinchillas, use the area that has been treated. This will include removing pets from the room during treatment and a period where the room is left to airate. How many cans do I need?

Aaronita Carlton

I have a 2 bedroom cottage. So I would like to know how many cans will do the job?

Many Thanks.

  • VioVet Staff

A single 500ml is sufficient for an average sized 3 bedroom home, so a single can should be fine.

Hamster?

Tianna

hello, i have a hamster cage that i am unable to pick up and move. can i still use this product with the hamster in the room?

  • VioVet Staff

Indorex spray must not be used with animals or people in the room as it is an aerosol spray. You can use this product on the cage area but the hamster should be temporarily relocated whilst you are treating the room, your hamster can be replaced once the room has been ventilated. Treatment involves spraying the area, waiting 30mins and then opening all windows to ventilate.

Toxicity

Laura

Is repeated use toxic to myself and my family?

Is it toxic to the cats? How long after it’s sprayed can myself and the cats go in to the room ?

  • VioVet Staff

Indorex is perfectly safe to use around people and pets as long as you follow the dosing guidelines correctly. Indorex kills fleas in the environment for up to 2 months after application so you should not need to repeat too many times, however I advise following your vet's advice on how to treat an infestation.
I have pasted the dosing guidance below for your convenience, it should answer all your questions:

Doors and windows
Before using Indorex, ensure that all of your doors and windows are closed. You should remove your pets from the area to be treated and ensure all pet’s bedding is washed on a hot cycle.

Pets
It is important that all animals are removed prior to treatment, including pet birds, reptiles, insects and spiders. Where possible, remove aquariums, vivariums and all water storage tanks (see FAQs for more information).

Naked flame
Do not spray Indorex near a naked flame or pilot light.
Prior to using Indorex on or around any upholstered furniture, you should test on an inconspicuous area of fabric

How to use
Start by shaking your can of Indorex well, remove the lid and hold the container upside down, pointing directly at the surface to be treated, at a distance of about 50cm.

Where to use
Spray directly on carpets, flooring and skirting boards and underneath any rugs or blankets, paying particular attention to any cracks and crevices. Avoid wetting furniture and carpeting, do not over-apply to polished wood surfaces. A five second burst will treat approximately one square metre.

Ventilation
Once you have sprayed, leave the room and wait for half an hour before ventilating the area by opening windows and doors for at least an hour.

Cleaning
It is vital that you vacuum all floors and upholstered furniture for 7 consecutive days after using Indorex. The vibrations from the vacuum will make sure that any unhatched pupae will hatch out and be killed by the Indorex you have used. Always empty the contents of the vacuum outside.

Could this harm a rabbit

Annie

We have a house rabbit. About to take in a dog, after the death of close family member, and she has fleas. In anticipation of fleas falling onto the carpet I'm thinking of using Indorex Defence Spray. Obviously remove rabbit from house before spraying. How soon can he be returned to the room? Is it safe for him to be on the carpet? I'm concerned that the spray will come off the carpet onto his fur which he will ingest. Will this harm him? Will also be giving dog a bath as soon as she comes into the house and changing from Frontline Plus to something else as it's obviously not working.

  • VioVet Staff

Ideally the flea problem in your new dog should be sorted and resolved before bringing them into your house. However if this is not possible then I strongly advise treating both your rabbit and your dog for fleas, if they will come into contact with the same environment (e.g. carpet/bedding). As a bare minimum I would try to apply a good flea treatment onto your dog at least a day before they enter the house. This means fleas will die when they come into contact with your dog before your dog enters your house, and you may be able to prevent a full infestation settling in.

If Indorex is used as per the label then there are no issues with letting your pets, including rabbits, use the area that has been treated. I recommend reading our blog on how to clear a flea infestation for tips on products and a good treatment plan:

Can i spray the dog with this product

cheryl

is it possible to use this spray onto the dogs coat

This product is not suitable for use on animals, it should only be used in the environment to treat your home. I recommend checking out our range of flea products that are safe for use on animals directly.

How to use

Jo

Can this be used on mattresses including children’s?

  • VioVet Staff

There is no need to spray human bedding as flea eggs
and larvae cannot penetrate through the fibres of mattresses. Washing
bedding and mattress protectors on a hot wash and correctly treating the
room will be sufficient. Vacuuming the mattress will remove any eggs,
larvae and pupae.

Does this kill fleas and eggs in house

Does this kill fleas and eggs

Does this kill fleas and eggs in the house

  • VioVet Staff

Flea eggs/pupae are extremely hard to kill and there is no product guaranteed to do this. Indorex will kill adult fleas and also prevent larvae turning into adults by halting their life cycle. I recommend reading our blog on treating a flea infestation for a detailed guide:

Amounts

Diane

Hi can you roughly advise how much I would need to treat a standard three bed semi. Have notice two fleas in last two months in same place but want to treat whole house as a precaution
Also how long after treatment can rooms be used.

  • VioVet Staff

Hello Diane,

Thank you for your question.

One can of Indorex will be enough to treat an average 3 bed semi.

You should remove pets from any room that you are spraying. 30 minutes after spraying, open the windows and ventilate for one hour before allowing pets back into the room. If you intend to spray the whole house all at once then pets should be kept outside for this time.

Hope this helps!

Regards,
Bridget
