Hornex makes a great alternative to other calf dehorners for efficient removal of the embryo horn. Hornex paste should only be used for disbudding calves younger than 7 days. Hornex dehorning paste makes an ideal alternative to other dehorning products such as gas or wire dehorners. Each tub of paste will de-horn around 35-40 calves. For the removal of embryo horns on calves not older than 7 days old.
A pale pink to white buttery textured paste.
Smear petroleum jelly around the bud before application. The operator should wear protective gloves to apply the paste. Allow 1½ hours of dry weather when applying paste. Keep paste away from animal’s eyes.
25g tubs with screw on lids with wooden spatula included.
This product contains Sodium hydroxide and is CORROSIVE. Personal protective equipment should be warn to prevent contact with the skin – wear household rubber gloves, heavy duty overalls and eye/face protection when applying product.
Hornex is Prescription Only Medicine, classified as POM-VPS. Hornex may only be supplied in accordance with a prescription from a Registered Qualified Person (RQP).
42.7% w/w Sodium hydroxide.
Remove the hair around the embryo horn by cutting. Smear petroleum jelly around the bud, then apply paste to cover the entire horn bud, using the enclosed applicator. Dose per embryo horn is approximately 0.22g paste, and is the size of a small pea.
Do not apply to calves over 7 days old. Do not allow paste to become wet after application. Keep cow away from calf for ½ hour. For external use only.
