Our little old bischon with not many teeth-unfortunately has food allergies and needs to eat hydrolysed food. She loves this small kibble.

55 Ideal diet for furry family with a delicate stomach

My dog has a very sensitive and delicate stomach, ever since he was diagnosed with pancreatitis. All the quality foods out there just did not agree with him till we tried this Z/D diet. He loves the little kibble and though he has his down days, these are much more manageable as he has the energy to face them. He also suffered from severe tear stain which made his facial hair all dark. Since on this diet these tear stains have disappeared, and though I cannot say for definate that it was due to Z/D, I also cannot rule it out. So for all those out there who have little pets with a digestive problem, I would suggest you give this a go. You have nothing to lose but a great deal many happy days to gain, if it works. All the best.

How long can I keep the product.

The following is Hills (the manufacturers) advice on the shelf life of their products:

Shelf life varies by food type. The datecode on our plastic bags is located on the left gusset, near the four-digit SKU number, toward the bottom of the bag. The datecode on our medium and large bags will be located on the top of the bag, generally the front flap. The information below details the shelf life and storing methods for canned and dry foods.

Storing Hill's® dry food
We do not recommend freezing your pet's foods. Freezing dry food may attract moisture, resulting in mold.
Dry food can be left in the feeding bowl indefinitely if the bowl is kept in an area that is cool, out of direct sunlight and not subject to contamination by insects and vermin.
Store the bag of food in a cool and dry environment. It is best to store the bag off the floor to reduce potential infestation. The food will retain its best flavor if stored in the original bag. We do not suggest storing your pet's food in an uncontrolled environment such as a garage or outdoors.

Chicken?

I see from the Hills own website that one of the key benefits is: Hypoallergenic food formulated with highly hydrolysed chicken as the only animal protein source.

Although my dog loves chicken, I suspect it may trigger her upset tummy, would this food be hydrolysed enough for the chicken protein not to affect my girl?

I have used Purina Pro Plan veterinary diet HA with good effect but was considering a Hills product as an alternative as she gets bored with her food. I have recently purchased the Purina Pro Plan veterinary diet HA in the wet version which she eats readily but I am not convinced it suits very well.

The chicken within this diet is hydrolysed, this means it has been processed in such a way that it cannot set off a chicken allergy. Even if your pet is allergic to chicken. It should be safe for your pet even if they have a chicken allergy.
