Original Digestive Care I/D seems not to be produced any more. This along with the Chicken Stew is a good substitute and has kept my old dog well.

Substitution of i-d for l-d dog food (in cans)

Can I give Hills i-d dog food instead of l-d food as the latter is unavailable?
Greyhound has had diarrhoea and now needs feeding up.

  • VioVet Staff

The dry and wet versions of I/D can be used together or interchangeably, yes.

Puppy food

Sylvia Richmond

I have a surplus of Chicken Stew and Veg. Sadly my dogs have died and a friend has rescued a puppy. Is this food suitable to give the puppy it has been illtreated and is under nourished. ?

  • VioVet Staff

I am sorry to hear of your loss. Yes this food is safe to give a puppy. However ideally your puppy should be a on a complete puppy diet as their dietary requirements will be higher than an adult diet provides.
This adult food will be safe for a puppy in the short term but not weeks/months on end.

My 16 year old jack Russell suffers periods of very bad
Colitis .... vet suggested diet change hence I’m researching - at moment on royal canin sensitivity wet
Which she likes .. but only started today ... bought two cans from vet .. so keeping fingers crossed - my question is can I buy just two cans of I/d - don’t want 12
Cos if she doesn’t like it’s a big outlay to waste

  • VioVet Staff

Hills I/D is a great diet choice for a dog prone to intestinal upsets, it is specifically formulated to help resolve diarrhoea and colitis. Unfortunately it only comes in packs of 12 and we cannot sell individual cans of the food. Usually diet trials involve feeding a specific diet for 6 to 8 weeks as the only food though so it is advised to use more than a day or two of the diet before assuming it does not help. Your vet will be able to provide you more info on this.

I want to order Hills Diet Care Turkey 12 can for dogs.
Do I receive only Turkey or is mixed containing all types with vegetables

  • VioVet Staff

The Hills I/D standard wet cans of food (not the chicken stew version) comes only in one flavour. This is mainly turkey based but also contains other proteins, a full ingredient list is below:

Colitis in dogs

Joy Thompson

Would Hills be appropriate for a dog with ongoing colitis?

  • VioVet Staff

Hills I/D is formulated to help support the gut and is great to help settle episodes of colitis. It is a veterinary diet so it should only be used alongside your vets advice, especially if your dog has been diagnosed with a colitis related condition.
