Description

Hibiscrub is a powerful antiseptic solution, often used in hospitals to discourage harmful bacteria. It is not, however, intended to aid healing and should NOT be applied to open or angry wounds. Hibiscrub contains chlorhexidine gluconate which is effective against a wide range of bacteria, yeasts, some fungi and viruses, so it is often used post-surgery to sterilise the body (avoiding the wound site). Before using Hibiscrub on your pet, always read the instructions carefully and get vet advice on its suitability. For general cleaning, only use Hibiscrub in diluted form as it can exacerbate skin problems and cause irritation. Best used for sterilising and not healing.

Please note: The dispenser pump is only available for the 500ml bottle and is sold separately.

55 Excellent product for many purposes
Verified Purchase

I have used Hibiscrub for many purposes where hygiene of the hands, minor injuries and skin infections are concerned. As long as the directions for dilution for the particular situation are followed it works well in ckeaning up the skin and injury site and reduces the risk of infection. It really works. On humans and animals (if they will let you!!).

I've used Hibiscrub on our English Bull Terriers for years, as a paw wash after daily walks and also as a shampoo. This breed is prone to skin issues but this seems to prevent any flare ups.

Dog acne on chin

Mike

  • VioVet customer since 2022
  • From: , United Kingdom

Hi my boxer dog suffers from chin acne which was diagnosed by his vet. It comes and goes but has flared up. Would hibiscrub diluted help with his current flare?

  • VioVet Staff

Yes, Hibi scrub diluted 1 part hibi and 4 parts warm water can be used to disinfect the skin and so can help with canine acne. If the acne is sterile in nature then you may not see a resolution by cleaning the skin in this way though, it is recommended to discuss the best treatment plan with your vet.

Hibsrcub for skin fold dermatitis

Jo

Recommend to use hibscrub for skin fold dermatitis on dogs chin , how often should it be cleaned? and how much should it be diluted.

  • VioVet Staff

If you wish to use hibi scrib for skin disinfection, such as cleaning an area of skin fold dermatitis in your dog, then it is recommended to dilute it 1 part hibi in 4 parts warm water. You should use this to clean the area twice daily. It should take 5 to 7 days to clear the average flare up of skin fold dermatitis. If wanting to prevent the issue then once or twice weekly cleaning of the skin folds should help.

Feet chewing and scratching in 'armpit' area

Judy

Hi. I have been recommended Hibiscrub to bathe my dog in. She is chewing her feet, both front and back. She's also scratching round the 'armpit' area and on one side has some little red lumps. Moisturising shampoo hasn't helped, so have been recommended Hibiscrub by a veterinary nurse. What dilution should I use and how often? Thank you!

  • VioVet Staff

Hibi scrub is great when diluted for treating and preventing superficial infections of the skin. It is unlikely to reduce the underlying itch though, I advise discussing how to treat the itch with your vet.
Hibi should be diluted at a rate of 1 part hibi scrub in 4 parts warm water, twice daily is a good frequency to clean the skin with. It needs to be in contact with the area for at least 5 minutes to have a good effect so if wiping areas then leave the hibi on for at least 5 minutes before drying.

Would Hibiscrub help reduce infection in interdigital cysts

Ann

My dog has always suffered interdigital cysts on all paws, which turn into ulcer type formations- at times treated with antibiotics and anti inflammatory meds, would soaking in Hibiscrub help? Or is there something else you would recommend?

  • VioVet Staff

Hibi scrub can be used to treat bacterial/fungal infections on the skin if diluted safely. I recommend discussing any treatment with your vet first, but if wishing to clean an infected area of skin then dilute the hibi scrub 1 part hibi in 4 parts warm water and use to clean the affected area twice daily. If the ulcers are not too deep and it is an infection you are trying to clear then Hibi scrub should help.

Mite infestation

Mary

Is this suitable for a mite infestation in addition to stronghold? My dog is 6 months

  • VioVet Staff

Hibi scrub can be used to clean the skin, treating and preventing bacterial/fungal infections. It should be diluted at 1 part hibi 4 parts warm water for this use. It is unlikely to kill the mites themselves but can clear any debris from dead mites/skin and prevent/treat secondary infecitons caused by the mites. The Stronghold is the main product that will kill the mites specifically.

Human acne

Kim

I read you can use this product for acne-human skin. Is this true? If so how exactly do you use it? Is it a soap/cleanser / does it need rinsing or diluting? Thanks in advance

  • VioVet Staff

Hi Kim,

Hibiscrub is intended to be used diluted, however if you wish to use it on your skin and have concerns about acne, the best thing to do would be to speak to your doctor or a dermatologist who specialises in skin care. There can be many factors involved and you should be able to work with them to identify the cause and help find a solution.

Best wishes,

VioVet

Thrush in horses

billy

Hi, my pony has thrush and this product was recommended to clean his feet before applying spray. I would like to know what harmful ingredients are in hibiscrub and how harmful they are and how much i need to dilute it before applying, please.
Thank you

  • VioVet Staff

The active ingredient in Hibiscrub, Chlorhexidine Gluconate, can cause skin irritation if not diluted effectively. There is no exact science to how much you should dilute it but usually one small splash in a small bowl of water is enough- so that the water becomes a very pale pink. As a rough guide 1 part hibiscrub to 10 parts water is more than enough.

Appying

Ethan

how do you apply it

  • VioVet Staff

Hi Ethan,

Thank you for your question.

You need to dilute the Hibiscrub with water and then rub it on your pet. It must not be applied to open or angry wounds.

Hope that helps,

VioVet.
