Safe for chickens

Joy

Is this product safe for chickens, at what doseage? And if so can eggs be eaten during treatment?

  • VioVet Staff

This product is intended for use in pigeons only. It may be safe for use in hens off license but you will need a written prescription from your vet to purchase it with us. It is also very unlikely to be suitable for hens within the human food chain.

how to use it

  • VioVet Staff

Hi there,

Thanks for getting in touch.

The usage instructions are as follows:

Add Coxoid to the drinking water at a rate of 28ml per 4.5 litres (1fl.oz. per gallon) for 7 days. In serious outbreaks of coccidiosis, treatment at half strength (14ml per 4.5 litres) should be continued for a further 7 days. The birds should not have access to unmedicated drinking water during the treatment period. Any medicated water which is not consumed within 24 hours should be discarded.

I hope this helps.

Canker + coxoid treatments

Will

Is it safe to mix the two treatments & give simultaneous?

  • VioVet Staff

Yes, it is safe to give both together. However you may want to use Harkers 3 in 1 which treats Coccidiosis, Canker and Worms in a single dose.

Dosage for canaries

Andy Bowes

what is the dosage per litre for canaries??

  • VioVet Staff

I would expect the same concentration to be used for canaries as pigeons. (Larger birds drink more water, so get a total dose proportionate to their size. A small bird gets a lot less through drinking less. It is a bit hit and miss, but this is the general principle which applies to putting medication in drinking water.) I would have to suggest that you check this with your vet before using it in any bird other than a pigeon, which is the licensed use. We can only supply it on the basis that it will be used in pigeons.
