Hello, I'm currently using Complederm for my dog who has a auto immune condition that affects his claws. It's main ingredient is evening primrose oil and I can only find it in 250ml bottles. It's very expensive and doesn't last. Does this contain the essential fatty acids omega 3 and 6 and would it be a suitable alternative?

  • Veterinary Advisor

Evening Primrose Oil does contain Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. You are right that Complederm contains Gamma Linolenic acid and Linoleic acid found in Evening Primrose Oil. However it looks like Complederm contains a few more added vitamins and minerals also. It is hard to say whether your dog will continue to do well if you switch to Evening Primrose Oil but since most of the ingredients are the same it may well be effective. The only way to know is to try the Evening Primrose Oil and see if it works for your dog.

Can this product be used on a 10 wk old puppy?

  • Non-Executive Director

A small dose introduced gradually would be perfectly safe for a puppy. Do not give much at all on the first dose, then very slowly increase the amount over a couple of weeks.

Can it be used for cats too- what dosage?

I have 2 indoor cats and 2 dogs. One longer haired cat is losing fur on her haunches. both cats scratch sometimes. I will also treat them for fleas. Vet recommended E.P. oil for my dog who is a bit itchy, so I thought it might help the cats too but don't know what dosage I can give. Thanks

The recommended dose for a cat is 5ml given per cat, per day.
