Teddie my rescue dog has lifelong skin issues so helping keep her short dense coat in good order is important. I have a large furminator which I had for my old Irish Wolf Hound and so have purchased the small one for teddie - although expensive certainly does a good job in removing the under hair - would stress best used as part of the overall grooming care - say once a week in shedding time and once every two weeks other times. General brushing every day.
Very strange to use on my 4 month old Chow Chow pup, felt like I was ripping her fur out. Will wait till winter to see when she starts shedding to try again. Not much use for now as I stick with the slicker brush.
I had heard huge rave reviews but was always turned off by the price, however the ridiculous amount of fur my JRT is shedding (and no other brushes making much of a difference) finally convinced me to give the furminator a try. Believe the hype folks, its great!
At the present time the dogs are at the end of their winter shedding. Will discover the benefit of this tool when the warm weather arrives. One bitch in particular has a very dense coat, so that is when the challenge will be. Unable to give rating at this time
I have been using the 'Large dog' furminator since 2007, and have used this brush on all my aunts dog's (labrador, Jack Russell,Boarder Collie & (Collie X Lurcher x Lab..he has a very thick fluffy double coat ) and it works very well on all of them!
I have also used it on my mums dog,he's a German shorthaired pointer X flat-coat retriever (he's all black,it makes him super shiny!! )
I now have an American Akita X some kind of shepherd (rescue dog so unknown ) it works amazingly on his fur which is pretty thick and fluffy...gets ALOT of hair out.
He looked like a different dog after one brush session with this haha.
Would be awesome on any husky/malamute cause his coat is very similar :)
(not owned a dog with very long hair (golden retriever ect)
so not sure how well it would work on them...but on short-medium & fluffy fur..its amazing :D
by far the best dog brush i have ever used :)
(have also tried it on the horses haha,it works on them too! good for getting some of the winter coat off :)
