I have not used the product. Our pony sustained a wound. I researched a lot of products on the internet that might speed up healing. Wonder Dust was one and I bought it. Meanwhile I started using a herbal antibiotic cream and found this to help healing significantly so I stuck with that. Reading up about Wonder Dust there are some warnings that it is caustic and others to say it dries up a wound on the outside but infection could start or linger underneath.

Excellent product the name suits it well "wonder dust" cleared a very slow healing fetlock injury of about six weeks in about a week could see real results after just one day brilliant product would use again immediately if I was using this in the first place I'm sure the wound would have healed S long time ago

Rubbing inner toes on Dog

Kevin Parker

One of my Lurchers has a very bad rubbed sore on his inner toe knuckle area. Wondering if the dust will aid in healing if used alongisde cornpads to keep the area open and dry instead of using wet antibacterial like a HiBi Scrub wash?

  • VioVet Staff

This product is intended for use on horses and their wounds, so I cannot comment on whether it would be safe for use on your Lurcher. Hibi scrub is a good product once diluted to clean the area. I would focus on using this and preventing licking/rubbing of the area. A clean and slightly wet environment is actually quite important for most wounds to heal, it is difficult for skin to heal over when completely dried over as this forms scabs/crusts.
You can prevent licking/rubbing using buster collars or appropriate boot covers. If you need advice on which to choose please contact us on [email protected].

Equine proud flesh removal

  • VioVet customer since 2015
  • From: middlesex, United Kingdom

I would be extremely grateful to learn if the WonderDust can be used for getting rid of equine proud flesh?
If so, i would be grateful to learn if it will heal / promote healing of the wound underneath or or will I need to treat that again separately once the proud flesh is gone?
Please note, the wound was initially cleaned accordingly but has left a small amount of exuberant granulation tissue.
Many thanks

  • VioVet Staff

There are a number of different factors involved with the development of proud flesh, so no single treatment will always work perfectly every time. Having said that, this product can help exactly as you intend and so it should be a good choice for you. If the excessive granulation tissue diminishes, the wound will heal from the edges and cover the wound so there would be nothing left "underneath" to heal - the wound should be gone. (The skin might be slightly scarred in that area though, and will not be as tough as normal skin.)

Use on granulation tissue on a wound

My horse has just had proud flesh cut off an existing wound, I want to try to prevent the growth again, until the skin can start to close in and reduce the size of his wound. Can this powder be used for that?

  • VioVet Staff

This product can indeed be used in the way you describe and I believe it can help. I would be happy to try it.
