Benefits

Renal

  • Nitrogen Trap Fibre System (beat pulp, FOS, Gum Arabic) - helps reduce nitrogenous waste – allowing for feeding moderate protein levels
  • Moderate levels of high quality animal-based protein - help to preserve the glomerular filtration rate
  • Targeted omega-6:omega-3 fatty acid ratio - increases GFR and manages inflammation at the cellular level
  • Reduced phosphorus levels - soy protein isolate (reduced phosphorus) helps nutritionally manage hyperphosphataemia, to help slow progression of renal disease
  • Added potassium citrate - helps control metabolic acidosis

Liver

  • Nitrogen Trap Fibre System (beat pulp, FOS, Gum Arabic) - to decrease ammonia accumulation, which can occur in liver disease (Hepatic Encephalopathy)
  • Moderate levels of high quality animal-based protein - a key component in enabling liver repair and maintaining liver function
  • Targeted omega-6:omega-3 fatty acid ratio - helps manage inflammation at the cellular level
  • Soy protein isolate - vegetable protein source - shown to less commonly lead to hepatic Encephalopathy

Overall health & wellbeing

  • Vitamin E - an antioxidant to help maintain a strong immune system
  • Beet pulp - a moderately fermentable fibre that produces butyrate, a short chain fatty acid (SCFA), which is a preferential energy source for the enterocytes and promotes intestinal health
  • FOS (fructooligosaccharies) - prebiotics which aid in GI health and have been shown in a clinical study to help maintain the balance between beneficial and potentially pathogenic bacteria

Chicky is at a stage of CKD level 3/4. His appetite varies daily and he goes off foods very fast too. Eukanuba is not Chicky's favorite but occasionally that is all he will eat. At this stage we try to have at home different renal foods to motivate our Chicky.

Eukanuba is a great choice. The biscuits are small and not hard, so for our sweet senior baby is great because he has only a few teeth left too.

We have tried our cat on all of the available branded renal diets, but he has never recovered his appetite, until he tried these.

Joey liked them initially but now has gone off them so my other cats eat them. Joey is the one with mild kidney issues though.

Complete cat dood

Gisella Chen

  • VioVet customer since 2017
  • From: #03-35, Singapore

Hi is this a complete act food for kidney cats? As in it can be fed exclusively without any other food and still meet the nutritional requirements fully?

  • VioVet Staff

Hi Gisella,

Thanks for your question. The Eukanuba Veterinary Diets Renal cat food is a complete food so you would not need to feed anything else. It contains a restricted level of high quality protein and a low level of phosphorus. Renal for Cats should be fed initially for up to 6 months. For any extended use please consult your veterinarian. Water should be available at all times.

Kind regards,

Bridget.
