If left untreated, worms can lead to serious health complications for you and your family. Drontal Dog Tasty Bone Tablets are highly-effective and make worming easy. You might not know if your dog has intestinal worms, but you can trust Drontal to help combat them.

How often should I worm my dog?

Research has shown that the majority of dogs in the UK should be wormed monthly, based on their home environment and lifestyle such as scavenging, spending time outdoors off their lead and even access to back gardens.* However, there may be situations where less frequent treatment is required and it’s best to speak to your vet about the most appropriate worming frequency for your dog.

Unfortunately, this made medication made my dog ill for about a day.
Think it’s too strong for him.
I’m sure it’s very effective in other dogs though.

Q & A

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding Drontal Tasty Bone Wormer Tablets for Small & Medium Dogs (2 to 20kg), including answers from our team.

Can these be safely used with Seresto Flea/Tick Collars?

Aaron Maltby

  • VioVet customer since 2015
  • From: West Sussex, United Kingdom

Our 10 year old Border Collie bitch seems to have had a reaction to Drontal worming tablets.
She has been wearing a Seresto collar since September 2020 & I was advised that Drontal was safe to use with Seresto collars. She also takes the Viovet Joint Force tablets, 2 per day usually but she has had double dosage during February due to a brief period of limping after longer walks. This is now back to 2 per day.
However, the last two doses of Drontal appear to have given her an upset stomach as since taking them, she has had accidents indoors during the night (urine & faeces), even just after having been outside or on a walk. I hadn't linked the Seresto collar with Drontal until this dose, as her indoor accidents appear to have only occured just after taking the Drontal worming tablets.
She has no loss of appetite, no apparent lethargy & she seems to be completely healthy otherwise.
It may be completely coincidental & our other male Collie cross (2.5 years old) seems to have had no problems at all with the Seresto collar & Drontal wormers together.
Please let me know what you think, many thanks.

  • VioVet Staff

Drontal and Seresto contain very different ingredients that treat different parasites. They should not interact and are safe to use together. If your dog is possibly reacting to Drontal then we legally need to report this, please contact us on [email protected] so we can help you further. Adverse reactions in general tend to be very rare though.

1.5 KG

Sarah

My puppy currently weights 1.5 KG, how much wormer would I be able to give him?

  • VioVet Staff

This product is only suitable for dogs weighing over 2kg. If your dog is 1.5kg then I recommend using Drontal Puppy Suspension or you can use our own brand TermaWorm at 1/4 tablet dose if they are weaned.

Puppy

  • VioVet Staff

Yes this product is safe for use in puppies as long as they are over 2kg in weight.

Can the bone be crushed and mixed with food?

Charlotte Butterfield

Can the Drontal bone wormer be crushed and mixed with food?

  • VioVet Staff

Yes these tablets can be safely crushed/split and mixed into food.

Drontal or Drontal plus

Linda

What is the difference between Drontal and Drontal Plus?

  • VioVet Staff

Drontal Plus is the brand name for the dog version of the tablets, and Drontal is the name for the cat version. If you are purchasing the Drontal Tasty Bone Wormers for dogs from our site then these are the Drontal Plus for dogs and then are no alternate' Drontal' dog tablets.

Chihuahua

Lauren

My dog is very small, she only weighs a couple of kgs at the very most. Is this product safe for her or can you recommend and alternative?

  • VioVet Staff

Drontal is safe for use in dogs over 2kg. If your dog weighs between 2 and 5kg then the doseage is 1/2 a tablet of the Drontal Tasty Bone worming tablets.

Drontal Tasty Bone Dog Wormer

Angela Power

Is Drontal tasty bone dog wormer suitable for a Chow Chow weighing 27kg

  • VioVet Staff

Drontal tablets are safe for use in any species of dog. For a 27kg Chow Chow I would advise giving 3 x Drontal Tasty Bone Wormer tablets as 1 tablet treats up to 10kg.
Standard worming is recommended every 3 months.

Hi can I worm a nursing bitch

Frances Whitehead

  • VioVet customer since 2015
  • From: Lincolnshire, United Kingdom

Hi
Can I worm a nursing bitch with this wormer when I’m worming pups at 2 weeks old with Drontal puppy ?

  • VioVet Staff

Drontal is safe to use during lactation so is suitable for a nursing bitch with 2 week old pups. It is not safe for use during pregnancy though, however this does not apply to your situation.

Wormer non prescription

Vicky Monk

hi what non prescripion wormer can i givemy dog who takes bravecto plz

  • VioVet Staff

A wormer like drontal is great to use alongside a product like Bravecto. Bravecto covers fleas/mites/lice/ticks so you need to cover roundworms/tapeworms alongside this. Drontal will cover both of these, for standard worming this should be given every 3 months. I also advise checking out our own brand TermaWorm which has exactly the same active ingredients.

It is worth noting that over the counter products will not cover
lungworm unfortunately, only prescription wormers will do this. You can
purchase these through our website alongside a written prescription from
your vet. More information on this can be found below:

Working pregnant bitches

Amiee Shelton

Is this wormer safe for pregnant bitches

  • VioVet Staff

The data sheet for Drontal states it is safe for lactatting bitches but you need to consult your veterinary surgeon before treating pregnant animals. I cannot advise that it is safe in pregnant bitches so I recommend contacting your vet.

If you are looking for a wormer that is safe in pregnant and lactating animals then I advise Panacur. This has a specific pregnant dog worming regime in the data sheet.
