Feline idiopathic cystitis is a complex syndrome. Environmental and physiological factors are thought to play a role and the condition has been linked to stress. Breakdown and loss of the glycosaminoglycan layer and tight junctions in
the bladder, can complicate and exacerbate the condition significantly. Management involves a multi-modal approach, addressing the disturbances in multiple areas.
Is an effective product designed to encourage bladder health in your pets. It is recommended that Canine Cystaid Capsules should be combined with increased water intake by switching to a wet-food diet. Cystaid can be administered whole or broken and sprinkled onto moist food. Canine Cystaid contains 500mg of glucosamine.
Cystaid for Cats
Initially administer 2 capsules per day (1 morning, 1 evening) for 3 - 4 weeks.
1 capsule per day to be given long term.
Capsules can be opened and sprinkled onto food or given whole.
Canine Cystaid
1 capsule daily per 10kg bodyweight for 3 - 4 weeks.
For recurring cases 1 capsule per 10kg bodyweight every other day.

Following a bout of cystitis and course of vet prescribed medication got these capsules, after speaking to vet about treatment going forward, for our 11 yr old Lab. She's back to her old self now and hopefully the Cystaid will help maintain a healthy bladder.
Quite expensive for 120 capsules (£72) as can be bought elsewhere for £11 less for same quantity.
Rated "3/fair" as long term effectiveness/side effects is unknown at this time and VFM/cost may mean getting them elsewhere.

My cat Chloe has a cystaid tablet every night when she goes to bed to stop the build up of crystals in her bladder. She has done this since she was a young cat. I chose to buy these tablets from viovet to cut out large vetinary bills. The tablets are very effective and Chloe is a very happy healthy cat.

My dog has Royal Canin Urinary s/o to prevent Struvite stones.
Is this supplement suitable for him? I see it is high in protein and contains magnesium which I think is supposed to be kept at a minimum to help prevent struvite crystals.
Yes this should safe to give to a dog already on a veterinary diet. It comes in capsule form and so just contains the ingredients required, no added protein/flavouring. However I still advise running it's use past your vet as they may be aware of important clinical information that would affect this decision.

How many are in the pack?
This depends on the size of product you choose. The dog version has 120 capsules per bottle and the cat version 240 capsules per bottle.

My dog was diagnosed with a tumor in her bladder a yr ago.. In Dec'15 we got to know she also has cystaids in her bladder this increased her issue...
We were recommended by her Vet to give her Canine Cystaid Plus which we started from 31st Dec'15 for two and a half weeks we saw great improvement how in the third week of taking this medicine something doesn't seem right as now she has started to get a bad urge to urinate ...this is once in every 30mins
She needs to see a vet. Possibly she has not picked up a urinary tract infection, or she may have physical difficulty in passing urine. The infection is most likely and antibiotics might be appropriate, but she should go to your vet.

My dogs are taking Urinaid for several months so far. But, as one of them is suffering for cystitis, I'd like to feed him Cystaid Capsules instead of Urinaid or both. So, I want to check whether it would be ok my dogs are taking both Cystaid Capsules & Urinaid at the same time.
These two products work in different ways to try and help maintain a healthy urinary tract. Different dogs respond differently to these sorts of things, so it is not possible to say for certain how much they will help, but they might well prove to be useful and they are safe to try. They will not cause any problems if used together.

I have a 4 year old female St Bernard who has cystitis she is 62 kilos would these help and what dose would I have to give her please.
The Cystaid for Dogs might well help, though cystitis is a complex condition and lots of factors can be involved. It is worth using if your dog does keep getting cystitis. The dose for you dog would be 6 capsules per day for 4 weeks, then 3 capsules every day. Cystitis is always less likely to occur if the urine is dilute, rather than concentrated. Therefore your dog will probably do better if she takes in lots of water. Most vets would say that a wet diet, not including any dried food, would also be a great help. Making sure your dog does not get fat and encouraging regular, gentle exercise will probably help too. It helps if the bladder is emptied quite often, which is more likely to happen if your dog is moving around outdoors than resting on the carpet.

Feline Cystaid has been discontinued and changed to Cystaid Plus. The difference is Cystaid Plus now contains Quercetin and L-Theanine which are known for their calming properties. They help to reduce stress behaviour in cats.
