Bisolvon powder is added to food once or twice daily. It is used in dogs, cats, pigs and cattle. Bisolvon acts to help clear mucus from the respiratory tract and is useful where the accumulation of mucus might be detrimental. This occurs in respiratory infections and some other respiratory diseases. It is possible that Bisolvon increases the concentration of some antibiotics within the mucus when given concurrently, though this has not been proven to be of benefit.

Both my cats were sneezing , nothing diagnosed as Vet thought probably heriditary. At one stage my little one had thick mucus coming from her nose . Started her on Bisolvon and it seems to have worked , took a while but she no longer sneezes as much it has the mucus discharge . My other cat was also sneezing but nothing as bad , started him on it and it seems to have helped .

How long will a sachet of bisolvon last if giving 2x2 stops a day
Each blue scoop provided measures 0.5g of powder. Each sachet is 5g in total and so one sachet contains 10 scoops of medication. If you are giving 4 scoops per day then each sachet will last 2+1/2 days.

I've been given bisolvon by the vet and told to use a tiny amount on each puppy for 5 days however the instructions say to put it in there food but there still drinking from mum. Do I just put I tiny bit straight into there mouths?
The datasheet for this product states the following:
For oral administration in the feed or drinking water. Add to feed or drinking water immediately before administration.
If this is not possible then it is advised to discuss this further with your prescribing vet, only they can recommend off license ways to administer the medication.

is is safe to use bisolvon for a cat with kidney disease
There is nothing specific in the datasheet regarding using this medication in cats with kidney disease, this means it should be safe. However it is a prescription only medication so you should run any concerns past your prescribing vet. Only your vet is in the position to provide definitive guidance on it's use in your pet.

Does bisolvon cause more poo. Since using it on my 11yr old chihuahua he seems to toilet every night indoors and he never usually does that

My cat has been prescribed this as he has long term nasal irritation, will it stay usable when opened in packet . I noticed it said use within a few days of opening .my vet gives me one sachet a month to give twice a day . Will it still work after it’s opened for more than a few days..also how much water can I put it into ,he likes dry food awkward to put on that
The datasheet for this product states the following:
After opening a sachet, use the contents within a few days and re-seal
as well as possible between doses. Any unused material should be
discarded within 7 days. Discard any remaining medicated feed or
drinking water which is not consumed within 24 hours.
If used outside of this then the medication may not work effectively. I advise discussing tbis with your vet further.
It can be mixed into the feed or drinking water, whatever is easiest. You should not mix it into more water than your cat will drink within 24 hours, as any remaining water after this time will need to be disposed of.

My puppy has been taking it since yesterday and his been sleeping a lot more he usually dosent go to sleep in the morning after eating his food but today his had his food and medicine and his asleep won’t even follow me around the house like he usually does
There are no listed side effects for Bisolvon as per the datasheet. If your dog is experiencing possible side effects though then I strongly advise seeing your prescribing vet to rule any underlying issues.

My cat has been on bisolvon for a week now and while it seems to work somewhat while he's taking it, he still has chronic nasal congestion which worsens overnight. I've been trying to treat my cat since January for an upper respiratory infection. He's been treated with doxycycline for 7 weeks, 2x antibiotic injections which last 2 weeks each, flumax and now bisolvon L-Lysine alone. Nothing has cured his problem. Can I keep giving him bisolvon in conjunction with L-Lysine supplement until his body's own immune system tackles this infection?
There are is no information in the datasheet of this product for long term use. This means it is likely safe but I advise discussing this with your vet as only they can prescribe it for long term use.

I have been prescribed Bisolvon for my cats respiratory infection and I was just trying to do abit of research on the drug. I can’t seem to find any information on possible side effects in cat’s. Are you able to advise of these?

There are no listed side effects on the data sheet for Bisolvon, this means there are no known side effects. However that does not make side effects impossible. If you are having any problems whilst using the medication I strongly advise contacting your prescribing vet so they can determine if Bisolvon is the cause or not.

Does Bisolvon cause iris melanosis in cats? My cat started to develop this at the same time as starting on the mucolytic.
There are no listed side effects for Bisolvon so I cannot confirm or deny this. However from medical experience the Iris Melanosis is extremely likely unrelated to the Bisolvon use. The condition is a pigmentation of the iris itself and there is no evidence currently to say that Bisolvon would affect the body's pigmentation system. It is worth discussing treatment with your vet and following their advice.

Can Bisolvon powder for cats cause him to pass more stools during the day, more than usual? Does it have a laxative effect? My cat has been prescribed a pinch of it twice a day mixed with food. Today he’s passed stool 4 times. Can you please advise if this is a normal reaction? Thanks.
Increased stool production is not a normal side effect of Bisolvon and it is unlikely related. If the stools are normal in consistency then this can be stress related and I would monitor them, but if they are soft or your cat is abnormal in any other way then I advise contacting your vet.
