Description

This soft flea collar from Beaphar is a comfortable and effective solution which contains an insecticide which kills the fleas on your cats and helps to prevent their return for up to four weeks. Each fashionable collar can be adjusted to fit any cat or kitten over 12 weeks of age. Each collar comes complete with a silver bell.

See below for the colour selections offered. Colours are randomly allocated.

Collar contents
Active ingredient: each collar contains 456 mg (18% w/w) Permethrin (cis:trans 40:60).

Directions for use
Do not remove the flea collar from the blister until ready for use. Fasten around your cat’s neck (coloured side facing outwards), leaving enough room to insert two fingers between the collar and neck. Do not fit too tightly to ensure against irritation, but do not fit too loosely. This could cause the cat to get a foot or tooth under the collar in an attempt to remove it and become caught up. Remember to periodically check and loosen the flea collar if fitted onto a growing cat. Cut off any collar sticking out beyond the buckle and rap this cut-off in a bag and throw it in your dustbin. Keep the empty blister card for reference until the collar is thrown away.

Precautions
You should not use this flea collar if your cat is less than 12 weeks old, is sick, or getting over an illness. Do not allow the collar to come into contact with pregnant or nursing cats. In all of these cases, use a flea comb or speak to your vet. Do not use any other flea control products on your cat while using this collar or within seven days of removing it. Leave room between the collar and your cat’s neck to allow for growth and to prevent irritation — if skin irritation does occur, remove the collar straight away. Never allow any animal to chew the collar. Do not use after the expiry date stated on the label. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. For animal treatment only. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling the collar.

Do not smoke, eat, or drink while handling the flea collar. Do not allow children to play with the collar or to chew and suck on it. A pet wearing a flea collar should not sleep in bed with people, particularly children. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS to aquatic life. Do not contaminate ponds or other watercourses with the collar. Dispose of excess collar length, the used collar, and empty packaging in the household refuse.

Frequently asked questions
Q Does this flea collar stop working if my cat goes out in the rain?
A No, your flea collar should still remain effective if your cat goes outside. The active ingredient is bound within the substance of the collar and, under normal weather conditions, should not be affected.

Q Can my cat wear one of these flea collars all of the time?
A Beaphar Cat collars are designed to be worn all the time, with a few exceptions. Cats under 12 weeks old (soft collars) / six months old (plastic collars), nursing or pregnant cats, and those treated with other insecticides should not wear a flea collar. If you have used a spot-on, or other insecticidal treatment, you can usually put the flea collar back on after a period of seven days but do check the spot-on label first. If your cat develops any sign of skin irritation or signs of drowsiness, listlessness, or respiratory difficulties soon after fitting the collar, take it off immediately. Fleas should be removed from young kittens and nursing females by careful use of a flea comb. If signs of disease persist or appear, consult your veterinary surgeon.

Q My cat doesn't like bells — is the bell detachable?
A Bells can be easily removed from the soft felt collar by simply threading it along the collar. The bell is supplied separately with the plastic collars, so you can choose whether to fit it or not.

Q How does this flea collar work?
A Flea collars work by slowly releasing the active ingredient, which has been integrated into the cat collar material, over a long period of time. The active ingredient then slowly spreads around the body surface of the cat in the natural oils of the skin and coat. Fleas that come into contact with the active ingredient are killed.

Q How long does it take for this collar to work?
A The flea collar will become effective from the moment it is fitted to your cat. It will begin to kill fleas immediately however it may take several days for the active ingredient to spread throughout the whole coat. Once fitted, the collars are designed to prevent fleas for up to four months. How well the collar works will partly depend on the level of flea infestation in your household. Fleas spend most of their lifecycle not on the cat, but in the home environment. If this source of infestation is not effectively treated, newly hatched fleas will still bite family members and will continue to infect your cat. You will need to use a good household flea spray, such as Beaphar Defest or Beaphar Household Flea Spray to treat carpets and soft furnishings in all rooms that your cat has access to.

Got this item twice- will buy again, I like that it's very ajustable and safe, the colour is beautiful and very reflective in the dark when the lights heat it. I was the package says it will last up to 4 months- usually collars last less- I was planning to keep the collar after the flea treatment will pass because it's nice. the different parts separates a little - the yellow from the white fluffy base.

My long haired cat has her usual flea treatment but a week later, I pop on a 'Beaphar Flea Collar' for added protection. I feel confident with the collar's safety, with the stretch elastic. A good 'fashion item' for moggy.

Can you use both together?

Yes these two collars can be safely used together however you should not need to use both. I recommend sticking to one or the other, if you need more information treating fleas then I advise reading our blog linked here.
