Below are some recent questions we've received regarding Allerderm Spot-On, including answers from our team.

do I just put it like it put the spot on flea products?on the back of her neck?
Yes this is applied as you would a spot on flea treatment product, onto the skin at the back of the neck. It shouldn't be applied at the same spot as any recent flea treatments to avoid the products interacting. However if you apply the flea spot on once the Allederm site has dried (a week or so apart) then you can use the same location.

Hi, I have an 8 year old cat who is allergic to many things environmentally and food etc, I was wondering if this product would be okay to try as she has early onset of kidney disease. I have spoken to my vet but they take so long in getting back to me and she needs something to help her stop chewing her feet and fur mowing her legs! Thanks
This spot on is administered and effective within the skin layer itself and so should have little impact on the kidneys. It is still worth running this past your vet though as they will be in the best position to advise for your specific pet.
You may not see the chewing stop on this supplement alone but you may see an improvement. It aims to support the normal skin barrier function, if your cat has skin allergies specifically then this helps to reduce these allergens penetrating the skin and causing a reaction. It is best used alongside a good allergy treatment plan.
If you would like further advice on allergies then I recommend reading our blog, 'Allergies in cats & dogs - a vet guide'.

I've used this brands shampoo which was recommended by our vet and it made her worse, does this have similar ingredients ? Would like to try but if she reacted to the shampoo is it likely she'll react to this?
Given that skin issues can be complex and multifactorial I would strongly recommend speaking to your vet about which products to use when managing the condition.
With regards to ingredients the composition of Allerderm spot on is:
Aqua Skin Lipid ComplexTM (Ceramide 3, Ceramide 6 II, Ceramide 1, Cholesterol, Fatty Acids) Glycotechnology (Rhamnose, Galactose, Mannose) Defensin Technology (Peumus boldus leaf extract, Spiraea ulmania extract)
If you compare this to those in the shampoo you have then you can determine if a reaction is likely, for example if they share ingredients.

Hi there, I have 2 dogs one is using this product and the other has inflammatory bowel disease, is this a problem if she licks this ?
The product is unlikely to cause any harm for the average dog if licked off however it will not work as intended if this happens. If your dog has IBD then it also cannot be ruled out this could cause an issue for the condition, IBD flare ups can be set off by scavenging related episodes. I recommend keeping your dogs apart or preventing licking for a few hours after applying the product, at least until it dries. Beyond this point any licking should not be an issue.
The easiest way to do this may be to apply the product before taking your dogs on a walk so that they are distracted and unlikely to lick.

Hello, Does Allerderm spread all over a dog skin when applied and how does this process work, Thanks,
The ingredients within Allederm will be absorbed through the epidermal layer of the skin and into the lower layers (dermis and subcutaneous tissue) after application. As the skin is one complete organ then anything absorbed into these layers will spread throughout the entirety of the skin, not just the area it is placed on.

We use Advocate pipette for our flea treatment, is it safe to use Allerderm Spot on as well?
Yes these products are safe to use together. I advise using them at least 1 week apart as it can be a lot of liquid all at once which may run off your pet's body and be wasted. However they can be both applied at the same time if you can find enough space on the back of your pet's neck.

My boxer has numerous allergies she also constantly licks her vulva area making it very sore at times we have tried lots of different products but still searching for the one that will give her relief will this product be the one
The answer is that it might help, but you would have to try it to find out. Allergic factors coupled with secondary overgrowth of bacterial and fungal organisms (found in lower numbers on normal, healthy skin) are often combined in complicated interactions. Anything you can do to improve the health of the surface of the skin might help. Dietary change might make a big difference but needs to be carefully planned with your vet. This is a complicated situation and it is difficult to help by email. You will do no harm trying Allerderm.
