Description

ADAPTIL® can help your dog to adjust better to modern living, by creating a supportive environment to help ease behaviour problems, caused by every day stressful events. This can transform your lives by bringing you closer together. ADAPTIL® is a synthetic copy of the dog appeasing pheromone naturally released by a mother dog to comfort and reassure her new puppies. This pheromone has been shown to have the same comforting effect on puppies and adult dogs in stressful situations, when released through ADAPTIL® products.

Adaptil is non-sedative, non-systemic and as such can be used alongside other types of medications.

The ADAPTIL® products have been improved to ensure that dogs and owners around the world are provided with the best support.

Please note: The diffuser is supplied with just a standard UK 3-pin plug. The diffuser should be replaced every 6 months.

Adaptil is also available in Collars and Express Tablets.

Everyday events can mean everyday unhappiness

Simple things can upset your puppy or dog - new people, car rides, being left alone, fireworks or even a baby being brought into the home. The visible behaviours that you notice can be a result of your dog trying to cope:

  • Drooling and licking of lips

  • Excessive barking and whimpering

  • Soiling in the home

  • Panting & pacing

  • Trying to escape

  • Seeking out owner

  • Destroying household items

To help puppies grow into well-socialised dogs, it is essential to help them feel confident and secure whilst they are learning about the world around them.

Furthermore, in dogs of any age, stress-related issues which remain untreated, may cause health problems.

ADAPTIL® has been scientifically proven to have the same reassuring effect on puppies and adult dogs. It is particularly useful for new or challenging situations.

Over 28 published clinical papers support the use of ADAPTIL®.

It has been used by vets and pet owners worldwide for 14 years.

ADAPTIL® is safe, easy to use and convenient.

Diffuser/Refill

The diffuser releases the comforting pheromone in the local environment and should be plugged into the room where the dog spends most of it’s time, perfect for helping your dog feel confident and supported in their environment.

The diffuser will cover an area of 50-70 sq m (one floor of a three bed property) and last for 4 weeks.

Adaptil refills can be purchased to replenish the diffuser every 4 weeks. The diffuser plug should be changed every 6 months.

The Adaptil diffuser is ideal for:

- Nervous dogs

- Dogs that find situations hard to cope with

- Changes to their environment (new arrival, redecorating, moving home)

- Fireworks/loud noises

- Staying home alone

How to use Adaptil Diffuser?

Just screw the vial onto the diffuser unit and plug it into an electric socket.

Then leave the diffuser switched on continuously to keep your dog relaxed and friendly.

The diffuser should be plugged into the room where the dog spends most of its time.

Each diffuser refill covers an area of 50-70m2.

Avoid plugging in the diffuser under shelves or behind doors, curtains or furniture.

Spray

The spray is great for dogs that travel, stay in kennels or are visiting the vet. It can be sprayed onto bedding and carriers.

Whether you have just brought a new puppy home or have a much loved adult dog, you may find that from time to time they need help coping with new or challenging situations and the stresses of modern life.

Adaptil Spray can be sprayed directly on:

  • your dog’s bedding
  • inside crates
  • indoor kennels
  • in the car.

How to use Adaptil Spray?

  • Shake the bottle
  • Spray 8 to 10 pumps of Adaptil 15 minutes prior to expected effects and before the dog is introduced into the sprayed environment (car, carrier, kennel etc…).
  • Effects should last approximately 4-5 hours, although each animal will respond differently.
  • Reapply after this time or if you notice a reduced effect.
  • ADAPTIL® Spray can be applied directly on bedding, inside crates, indoor kennels , or in the car, but be sure to apply without the dog in the area to be sprayed (particularly inside the carrier or crate) and allow enough time (15 min) for alcohol evaporation.
  • Adaptil Spray should not be directly sprayed on animals or near an animal’s face.

Would this affect my budgie

14th Aug 2015
affect other animal's

Would this product affect my budgie or is it safe with birds

John Cousins
  • Veterinary Surgeon

This is completely fine to use with birds. It is true that birds are often particularly sensitive to inhaled toxic substances, but the Adaptil products are perfectly harmless to all species.

Pregnant wife

11th Aug 2015
Andrew

My wife is pregnant and the dog appears to have seperation anxiety. Please can you recommend a product whuch is safe to be around my wife. Thanks

John Cousins
  • Veterinary Surgeon

Adaptil is perfectly safe for your wife, and could certainly help with the anxiety. You could try giving the dog Zylkene too if needed. It should be perfectly safe for your wife to handle that too. Separation anxiety can be helped a great deal by the way the dog is managed around the times it is left so you should seek some expert advice about this. Probably there is good information online, or perhaps even contact apbc.org.uk to get some help.

Dosage of Tablets for a GSD dog

27th Apr 2015
sally mackenzie

Going to Ireland, might be a rough crossing!! she is normally OK on ferry to France although appeared a little 'stressed' once so we went Euro tunnel next. She does travel well but is now 9 years old. Only medication she has every other day is Metacam. Travelling 9th.May .15. thanks.

John Cousins
  • Veterinary Surgeon

I would give 3 tablets to her 2 hours before you travel. The dose can be repeated 6 hours later.

Adaptil tablets

31st Dec 2014
Jules

How long do the tablets last?

John Cousins
  • Veterinary Surgeon

These tablets are a new addition to the range and we have not yet had any feedback into how effective they are.

The effect would be expected to last for a few hours. If a longer duration of effect is wanted, then they should be combined with one of the pheromone products. A further tablet dose can be given 6 hours or so later if needed.

Maximum area for the diffuser to be effective

Laura Hancock
  • VioVet Customer Since: October 2014

What is the recommended maximum space the diffuser will work in. We have dogs shut in a fairly large open plan living space and wonder if we may need 2....

Richard Spratley
  • Web Developer

One diffuser is suitable to cover an open plan room of 50 to 70m². In most instances one diffuser would be enough.

Adaptil Collar / Flea Collar

7th Aug 2014
Monica Fiolograno

Next week I will put my dog (a large collie cross) in kennels for the first time. He is very attached to me and I am sure he will suffer from the separation and being in a new environment. Will he be able to wear the Adaptil collar together with his flea collar?
Thank you in advance for your attention.

Richard Spratley
  • Web Developer

It is ok for your dog to wear another collar at the same time as the Adaptil collar as a flea collar will not make the Adaptil collar any less effective. What you must ensure is that the Adaptil collar is always sitting close to the skin. As long as it is not resting between the flea collar and your dog's skin it will be fine.

60ml spray bottle

29th Jul 2014
Peter johns

We are about to put our 14 year dog in to kennels having just lost his companion, he has become very difficult to leave on his own, we are thinking of using the DAP spray while he is in kennels, how long should a single bottle last? Thank you

Richard Spratley
  • Web Developer

Each application should last between 4-5 hours and each 60ml bottle holds approximately 50 applications.

Does collar come with the smelly calming perfume?

25th Jul 2014
Karen

Want to buy 2 adaptil collars
One for a toy Yorkshire terrier under 5 kg
One for normal size Yorkshire terrier over 5kg
What sizes should I buy?
Buying the adaptil collars do they come with the smelly scent?
Or should I buy the refills too?
Please advise ASAP
This

Richard Spratley
  • Web Developer

The Puppy/Small Dog Collar should be suitable for both your Yorkshire Terriers. They have the pheromones built into the collar which transfer to your dog as their body warms the collar. Each collar provides 4 weeks treatment and should be replaced after this time if still required, the collar does not require any refill.

How long is an Adaptil collar effective for?

29th Oct 2013
Michelle Watson

How long do the effects last and can you "recharge" the collars?

Richard Spratley
  • Web Developer

The Adaptil Collar will last up to 4 weeks. It should be kept on the dog at all times except during shampooing. If Adaptil is still required after this time then the collar needs replacing.
