Adaptil Express (formerly Stress Relief Now) tablets are a non-pheromone, natural ingredient based tablet which can be used as little as two hours before the required effect. Ideal for predictable short-term events such as house parties, vet visits and fireworks. They can also be used in conjunction with the range of Adaptil pheromone products. Please scroll down for more information.

Adaptil is also available in Collars and Sprays/Refills.

Express Tablets

Adaptil Express tablets are a new addition to the Adaptil range, they contain natural ingredients designed to support your dog during short-term events. The palatable tablets can be given as little as 2 hours before the anticipated event and will last for 4 hours.

Adaptil Express tablets are a combination of GABA, L-tryptophan, L-theanine and B vitamins. They provide fast and temporary relief during short trips in the car or even for events such as house moves and parties.

There is no longer any need to stress or worry when last minute events occur as the tablets can be used as little as two hours before the required effect! And will last for 4 hours afterwards. For best results the Adaptil tablets should be used in conjunction with the wider range of Adaptil pheromone products.

When should I use Adaptil Tablets?

The tablets can be used in anticipation of any predictable short-term occasional challenging events that can be stressful for your dogs such as:

  • house parties
  • fireworks
  • thunderstorms
  • travel
  • visits to the vet or to the groomer

GABA (Gamma-aminobutyric acid) - The main inhibitory neurotransmitter in humans and dogs. It plays a central role in relaxation and limits the nerve cell activity in areas of the brain associated with anxiety.

L-tryptophan - An amino-acid which increases serotonin synthesis. It has been shown to reduce aggressiveness in dogs and stress related behaviours.

L-theanine - An amino-acid which increases the release of GABA and also inhibits the binding of the excitatory transmitter L-glutamic acid to its receptors. It has been shown to reduce anxiety and improve learning abilities.

B Vitamins (B1, B3, B6, B8, B12) - Are essential nutrients, indispensable for normal functioning of the brain system. As a group they help the body cope with the effects of stress.

At my wits end a while ago, I bought this for my little dog who gets so stressed at fireworks and thunder. I give her 1/2 a tablet which works pretty quickly and she settles - highly recommend this

Didn't work. Made no difference, dog much too distressed. Would probably be ok for a dog with mild anxiety.

The short answer to this is they did not work, I started 10 days before fireworks night and also used the adaptil plug in and my dog was still stressing with fireworks.

Long term use?

Martha Sahota

My dog suffers from anxiety when he's asleep and will jolt awake growling at noises if he's in a deep sleep. DAP collars and diffusers haven't worked for him, and as his problem is basically when he is unconscious training is pretty much impossible. We have been getting on well with zylkene chews, which drastically reduces this behaviour, but it say in the packet that long term use is 2 months and he's been on them for over that for sure. So I thought trying these might be a shout. If they work would they be OK to use long term?

  • VioVet Staff

Zylkene can be used in the long term, for longer than 2 months if required. The time period is suggested as it's important to approach behaviour training where possible for any anxiety that is being treated. It should be a last resort that the chews are used indefinitely. However this does sound difficult with the fear you describe.
Adaptil Express is more suited for short term use where quick calming effects are required, so may be less suitable for your required use.

My dog gets very anxious when going to the vet, will the tablets help in these situations or is it just for fireworks etc?

  • VioVet Staff

Calming tablets like this can help in all stressful situations, including vet visits. They are great for mild to moderate anxieties but if the fear is severe then you may need medications from your vet to calm the fear.

Hi. Just wondering if you can help me? Does Viovet sell any dog calming tablets that are like/similar to Adaptil Express Tablets? If so, which ones are they? Thanks.

Hi Ian,

Thank you for your question.

The YuCalm, KalmAid and Anxitane all contain similar ingredients.

I hope this helps.

Can it carm my dog from attacking my other dog

My dog is 5 years of age and he has been given to us from his recent owners who suffered with lots of stress like shouting at each other and she also sometimes lashes out on her ahusband by hitting him.....we hade milo about 2 years ago he used to attack alot when my kids are messing around like running up and down stairs and shouting at each other but nether gone for any of us just the my other dog who is the same age and breed as him I have got two staffs aswell she is 8 years of age and he is just a 5 months old but nether gone for them but only the one what is the same breed as him

  • VioVet Staff

The tablets are really intended for short term use over a particular event such as fireworks. You would probably find the diffuser more useful which would last around 6 months. However it does sound like your dog would benefit from help from an animal behaviourist alongside the adaptil. You can find some useful tips on

Adapti tablets

Can i use tablets every day .. its fireworkes time.. my dog is in stres every evening

  • VioVet Staff

It would be safe to use the tablets everyday but you may find that there is a diminishing effect the longer you use it. You could also try the adaptil diffuser alongside the tablets to give a better effect. The other thing you could do is build your dog a den so that he/she has a dark place to hide away from flashing lights and will muffle the sound of the fireworks. If your dog sleeps in a cage this would be ideal with some bedding inside and blankets thrown over the top away from any windows.

hi is it ok to use this 1 tablet a day With the maximum dose of stay calm oil at different times of the day I use stay calm about 3 times a day .

  • VioVet Staff

These tablets contain particular nutrients which if boosted just before a stressful event, might help to reduce the effects of that stress. They are safe and should be completely OK if used alongside other treatments. The only thing I would say is that they are intended as a short-term help for particular events, rather than to be given every day for an extended period of time. If you do give them long-term they should still be perfectly safe, but I am not sure that any benefits would be fully maintained.
