Great that my cats favourite food is also one of the healthiest for her.
Not always easy to find locally so I am delighted that I can order from Viovet

25 Used to love this....but have to stop using it

My cat had been on this food for about 6yrs and he loves it, always cleaned the bowl, was super healthy!
Since we got a 4.5kg bag (marked as new taste) in Jan though, he’s had upset tummy troubles. After a long process of eliminating possible causes, sadly we determined it is this food. Have contacted Acana and reported the issue, apparently they have had no other reports of problems and nothing in the food could cause the changes.
However we won’t be buying this again as he really reacts to it (he still loves it but his tummy really really doesn’t!)

We didn’t receive what we ordered, but the cat food, although states for all life stages so that’s probably ok and the kittens are 10 months so nearly adult. The bag doesn’t zip shut, apparently because that still lets in air so we freeze ours in airtight containers and defrost weekly.

Comparison ?

ANN-BRIDGET

I have lost all faith in cereal and derivative packed cat foods.
I very much like the look of the two Canadian dried foods ORIJEN & ACANA.
How do they compare in quality of healthy grain free ingredients and price ?

  • VioVet Staff

Your view is gradually becoming much more commonplace and I suspect it is going to be seen as the most appropriate one in time. Cereal has been used in cat foods for a long time now and it is so established, it is difficult to change that. Most cats do digest and utilise cereal very well and it is very cheap and convenient for the manufacturers. However some cats do react badly to cereals and maybe they would all be better without them. The evidence is not yet there, but that might change in time. Orijen cat food is often regarded as the premium product of this type, with Acana being a bit more economical. Ziwi Peak Cat Food from New Zealand is another very good product which you could look at.
