My fussy puppy’s love it, very good quality food, doesn’t make them loopy like a lot of other puppy food does, I’m happy that I’ve finally found something that suits them well with no hidden nastys

Which Acana puppy food for a chihuahua x teacup yorkie?

Gill Hayward

  • VioVet customer since 2017
  • From: Castell-nedd Port Talbot, United Kingdom

I have a 5 month old chihuahua x teacup yorkie. She weighs about 1.4kg. She has had a bit of colitis so I'm looking to change her food. I've heard Acana is a good food but don't know if I should I give her the small breed puppy dry food or the puppy and junior. Can you help please?

  • VioVet Staff

Hi Gill,

The recipes for the Heritage Puppy & Junior and the Heritage Small Breed Puppy are the same but the kibble size is smaller for the Small Breed version, so the Acana Heritage Small Breed Puppy may be more suited to your little one!

As with any food, change over gradually (increasing the amount of new food slightly and decreasing the old type every couple of days) so your dog's gut can get used to the different ingredients.

I hope this helps!

13 week cocker spaniel

LM

Would the small breed puppy food be better for a 13 week working cocker dog, rather than the puppy and junior food? I notice they both have cocker spaniel in the feeding guide so not sure what one to go for for his age. Thanks.

  • VioVet Staff

Hello,

The Acana Heritage Puppy & Junior, and the Hertiage Small Breed Puppy diets have almost identical ingredients/composition, and would be equally suitable in terms of nutrition for your Cocker puppy. The Small Breed Puppy version has smaller kibble, suited to breeds that don't exceed 9kg adult weight, so you can choose between them based on whether you feel your puppy needs an extra small kibble.

Personally, I would go with the regular kibble (Heritage Puppy & Junior) as it may provide a slight benefit to dental health.
