      July 2012

Supporting military dogs in Afghanistan:
Did you know that there are about 150 army dogs working in Afghanistan?

These highly skilled and loyal canines, usually Labradors, Spaniels and German Shepherds are helping the British Forces in a range of important  duties which include base protection and specialist search dogs used for locating IED’s (Improvised Explosives Devices).  These fantastic animals have saved numerous lives and are enormously valued by the British troops.

They also offer great companionship to the soldiers in such a tough location.

The government pays for their essential food and medicine but treats and toys are not part of their provisions.

Viovet donated 30 boxes including items that are not easily available for these superb dogs.

Wendy (pictured) has helped put together these gifts and has also received donations from Virbac Animal Health, Royal Canin, DermOpt as well as  VioVet. She has been overwhelmed with the support received to date.

The first batch of boxes will be transported this week!

Boxing-up with Wendy Nevins .

Items that have been requested for the boxes are rawhide chews, pigs ears, dental care products, toys, paw care products & poo bags to help keep Camp Bastion parade ground clean! .

Well done Wendy and keep up the great work. We're glad we could help you and our serving dogs.

Items donated by VioVet:
Rawhide Chews
Pigs Ears
Paw Wax

The July Dog Food Giveaway:

    What's it all about?
We wanted to help six UK based dog charities (or rescues, rehoming centers etc) to send a selection of stock that is approaching its 'best before' date or had minor damage to the packaging.

How did VioVet choose the charities/rescues ?
We asked our facebook 'likers' to suggest who they wanted us to send free food to.
Over 75 worthy causes were nominated (within 24hrs) and it was difficult for VioVet to pick just six.
The six chosen were almost picked at random - We required that they have a facebook page and that the food had to be sent to a UK address.
Several nominations supported TAG so we couldn't ignore them. The UK German Shepherd Dog Rescue was a personal choice (VioVet loves German Shepherds).

The Prizes:
The food is a mixture of  Hill's Science Plan Advanced Fitness , Purina Pro Plan , Barking Heads and nutritional James Wellbeloved treats

1st Prize -  Purina Pro Plan  and a mixture of  food and treats - worth over £200
2nd Prize -
Purina Pro Plan  and a mixture of food and treats - worth over £180

3rd Prize - A 12kg Barking Heads dog food bag and a mixture of food and treats - worth over £50
4th Prize - 7kg Hills Science Plan - worth £30
5th Prize - 6Kg Hills
Science Plan - worth £25

June 2012

In June VioVet donated over £1000 of dog food including Purina Pro-Plan and Barking Heads.

After a recent Pro Plan promotion VioVet had some surplus samples of Purina Pro Plan dog food left and with the expiry date approaching we donated the remaining bags to animal welfare organisations.

Our mission was to help out several charities and welfare groups so we put out a call to our 7000 plus Facebook followers.......within an hour the first of many vans & cars started to arrive at our warehouse to collect their goodies!

Together with some other brand feeds we donated over 400kg of top quality dog food worth over £1,000

REDS.
The first person to collect was Frances, a fosterer from REDS who rescue 'death row' dogs from pounds.

We were also delighted to meet Boysie, a very friendly Staffy.
We filled up Frances' boot and backseat with the food.

Romanian Animal Aid,
& Action for Animals.
Two rescues benefited with this collection.
A lovely lady called Chrissy filled her boot up with Purina - and we gave her two big bags of 'Barking Heads' to take to Romania.

She shares the food with a lady called Kendra who takes supplies to feed starving street dogs in Romania.

Pre June 2012:

Before the 'Giving a Little Back' scheme we didn't keep records of donations.

Each month hundreds of pounds of dog food was sent to many charities including HULA, Second Chance Poundies, NANNA,  RSPCA plus many many more.

We also regularly donated prizes for raffles and auctions.
The value of these donations was not kept but we know it would have totaled many £1000's  during the year.

We also ran a competition with cash donations worth £380 in 2011.
Focus on Animals

below - VioVet's Richard donated £100 of items to The Mayhew Animal Home.

VioVet's Commercial Director Philip Roberts attended a sponsored walk raising money for the 'North West Labrador Rescue' and also raising awareness for missing choc Labrador Brook.

RSPCA Southridge :VioVet filled their car to the brim!

Last January Jo and Rebecca from RSPCA Southridge came to our warehouse and VioVet stacked their car with as much food as we could fit in!

Rebecca told VioVet  "The cat food alone fed our 80 cats for a whole week!".

The value of the donations is calculated at the cost we would be selling the same product on our website. Often the goods are damaged or out-of-date or nearing their best-before-date so we wouldn't sell them but animal charities are still very grateful for food and items.
As VioVet  has great prices £100 of food from us is better that £100 of food from other retailers - so the charities are getting even more of what they need!
