Olympic torch-carrying Staffie looking for new home

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier that helped Michael Owen carry the Olympic Torch through Battersea Dogs & Cats Home is looking for a new home.

Rory and the football star carried the torch through the rescue centre and past Battersea Power Station, and were cheered on by the onlookers.

Owen said: "I'm a huge fan of Staffies so was thrilled to meet Rory and he seemed to really enjoy helping me carry the torch."

Laura Jenkins, head of animal welfare at Battersea, chose Rory to help Michael on Monday (July 23rd).

She said everyone was impressed with Rory's performance as he was very calm walking past all the photographers and crowds.

The charity is now hoping Rory's new found fame will help him find a new home and staff have put pictures of him carrying the torch outside his kennel in the hope someone will notice him.

"We think he’s still here simply because he’s been overlooked by potential owners, but now we’re hoping someone will see a photo or clip of Rory and realise what a wonderful boy he is," Ms Jenkins said.
