Keep cats slim with playtime

Owners with podgy cats can slim their feline through play, according to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.

"If an owner is worried their cat is overweight then they should seek advice from their vet. Many veterinary clinics also offer a pet weigh-in service for overweight pets which can help owners shed their pet's extra pounds," said Nikki Burville, veterinary nurse at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.

"There are also many things you can do at home to ensure your cat remains a healthy weight, like providing food in a food ball so your pet has to exercise to get it out, and also engage your cat in play time like string toys and chase games," she suggested.

In addition to cat toys and games, a nutritionally balanced cat food is recommended for optimum health. Owners who are uncertain about which food they should choose should consult their vet, who will also be able to help with weight loss through monthly weigh-ins.
