Frusemide (Furosamide) Tablets for Dogs

Frusemide (also called furosamide)is a diuretic used to clear excess fluid from the body. Veterinary licensed forms of the drug are available in 40mg sizes (Frusedale and Frusecare), but if vets prescribe 20mg tablets, then human generic tablets are used.

Frusemide is particularly helpful in cases of mild, moderate or severe heart failure. When the heart is not able to pump blood around the body as effectively as it should, then reflex mechanisms come into play, some of which gradually make matters worse. Diuretics help to reduce an unhelpful build up of fluid in the body, making the blood circulation more efficient.
Frusemide can be used for other causes of fluid retention (oedema) such as kidney or liver trouble, or some forms of injury.

Long term use can be associated with low blood levels of potassium. Where this occurs, potassium supplementation is recommended. Overdose will cause dehydration.
Frusemide is a diuretic used in the treatment of cardiac insufficiency, to help reduce fluid retention and control oedema.
