Royal Canin Urinary Support is a nutritional support food which has been specially formulated for dogs in cases of Bacterial cystitis, Dissolution of struvite uroliths, Reduction of recurrent struvite and calcium oxalate urolithiasis. Struvite uroliths are often associated with the growth of bacteria. The product will dissolve and help to prevent struvite uroliths due to acidification of the urine. It will also help to dilute urine with its moderately increased sodium levels which will reduce the concentration of calcium oxalates and struvites. Regular flushing out of the bladder will also occur due to the larger urinary volume. Low RSS will create undersaturated urine which will help to prevent the formation of calcoim oxalate or struvite crystals. The product also contains a low Magnesium content as Magnesium is a component of struvite uroliths. This product is available in Wet Food, Dry Food, Small Dog, Moderate Calorie (reduced calories to prevent weight gain) or Low Purine (for a reduced risk of urate stones). This food is intended for use under the advice of a vet, for more information or advice please contact your vet. | | | | Not recommended in cases of:

Urinary S/O Canine effectively dissolves struvite uroliths. An acidic urinary pH is unfavourable to the development of bacteria, which are frequently associated with struvite uroliths.
Diluting urine decreases the urinary concentration of struvites and calcium oxalates. The larger urinary volume also ensures regular bladder wash-out.
Undersaturated urine is an environment where crystals cannot proliferate. Thus the urine is unfavourable to the development of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals.
Magnesium is a component of struvite (magnesium ammonium phosphate) uroliths. |
