Royal Canin Vet Diabetic Low Carbohydrate Special is a nutritional support for dogs with Diabetes mellitus, Constipation, Large intestinal diarrhoea or Gastric motillity disorder. Glycaemic control and small intestinal absorption is slowed by added fibres. Postprandial blood glucose intake will reduced due to the low carbohydrate levels. Postprandial hyperglycaemia will be controlled with the cereal of low glycaemic index. Additionally, diabtetes mellitus will encourage oxidative stress which will also hep the development of chronic complications. This product is intended for use under a vet recommendation. Dietary fibre slows small intestinal digestion and improves glycaemic control in diabetic dogs.
Diabetes mellitus promotes oxidative stress, which in turn favours the development of diabetes-associated chronic complications (Opara 2002). Antioxidants neutralise free radicals.
