Hills prescription diet canine H/D, available from VioVet, has been developed for the nutritional management of heart disease in senior dogs. Inefficient heart valves or weakened heart muscle are the most commonly medicated complaints, with the onset of fluid-retention leading to extreme discomfort and being exacerbated by diets with a high sodium content. Hills prescription diet recognises this problem and has specially formulated a recipe with reduced sodium levels, as well combining nutrients such as taurine (most effective in cats) and L-carnitine, which are known for being beneficial to heart muscle and helping to control the symptoms of onsetted fluid retention and heart disease.
