Dog Fleas, Ticks, Lice & Mites

Dog Fleas, Ticks and Mite treatments available from VioVet

The most common external parasite affecting dogs is the flea. Every dog will pick up the occasional flea. Given the chance, fleas breed and can build up huge populations during the summer. They often go unnoticed until there seems to be a massive flea outbreak, which then takes a while to eradicate. The most effective flea treatments available contain Fipronil as the active ingredient. Frontline Spot On was the first product like this. Now there are others which work in exactly the same way, such as Fiprospot and Effipro. Frontline and Fiprospot are available in packs of 3 or 6 doses, whereas Effipro comes in packs of 4 or 24 doses and tends to be the most economical product to use. Indorex is our recommended household treatment.

It is often said that there will be 100 fleas living in nooks and crannies around a home for the every one flea found on a dog or cat. For these reasons it is important to treat the problem regularly, even when no fleas are visible, in order to prevent flea numbers accumulating behind the scenes. Using a household spray once per year (such as Indorex) and vacuuming carpets regularly will help.
