At some time in their lives, your dog or cat will most probably experience fleas, so if you have a flea infestation, don’t worry, you are not the first and certainly won’t be the last! Nobody likes fleas but they are a fact of life if you have a dog or a cat. They live off your pet by biting its skin and sucking its blood. This can cause serious irritation to you and your pet as well as potentially carrying disease. Fleas can also carry and infect pets with tapeworms.
Signs to look for if you think your pet has fleas: - Pet Scratching or biting constantly.
- Black/brown granules (flea droppings) in the fur, main areas to look are the base of the tail and the tail itself, around the neck, behind the ears and under the armpits.
- Try vigorously brushing the coat with your pet standing on a dampened white sheet or paper. If your pet has fleas the black/brown granules will drop from the coat onto the white surface.
If your pet has fleas, you will generally see them hopping/crawling around. They will either be on the animal’s skin or in the home.
Therefore it is essential that you follow a 3 step flea control programme to keep both your pet and your home free of fleas.
Step 1: Treat existing flea infestations on your cat/dog with one of our flea killing products, such as Bob Martin Double Action Spot On, you can also give your pet Bob Martin Flea Tablets to offer your pet some immediate relief. The Tablets are effective within 15 minutes.
Step 2: At the same time you need to treat the home: your pet’s bedding, carpets and soft furnishings regularly to kill adult fleas and prevent flea eggs and larvae from developing. Try Bob Martin Home Flea Fogger Plus or Bob Martin Home Flea Spray.
Step 3: Prevention – Bob Martin Double Action Spot On treats and prevents fleas and flea larvae for up to 4 weeks per application. Use all year round for the best protection against fleas.
