Bought to calm my the nerves of my new little pony who was stressed about the move. She only had it in a few feeds and it calmed her and she is happy with her new home.

I decided to use this product when my horse became anxious after a move. It has really helped to settle him in his new stable during the evening when he comes in from turnout. It has a gentle calming affect and I imagine good for a number of stressful occasions. I would personally recommend using it for a few days in advance of a singular situation - or a little a day to maintain some calm.

I bought this to see if it would help my sometimes excitable mare have a little more of a level head moving her between fields as she can often be bargy and strong and ive got to say it definitely helped, she was a totally different horse and led like a dream, no more walking sideways into me or pulling me up the road
I used it for a week or two before the initial move date, mixed in with some feed

How long does it take to work c

Charlotte

Roughly how long does it take to supposedly start seeing results ?

  • VioVet Staff

As far as I can tell this seems to be variable. Some people report a difference within a day, others that it takes a number of days. This is not a licensed medication and so it has not been through the rigorous scientific tests which apply to those products. This means that it is not possible to state anything conclusive about its effect. I am not sure that all horses show a significant response at all, but many do seem to respond well..

I started feeding my mare Lincoln Valerian Cordial about 5 days ago to help her deal with the temporary loss of her field companion they could be apart for 1 - 4 weeks. How long can you continue to feed valerian to a horse on a daily basis?
