Description

We can supply Flubenvet for chickens which are not kept as a commercial enterprise, the ideal worm treatment for "back-yard" birds — it is safe to eat eggs from treated birds even during treatment. Flubenvet kills worms and their eggs and is a sensible measure for any previously untreated free-range bird which is showing non-specific illness, or where worms are diagnosed or suspected.

FLUBENVET IS USED TO MEDICATE ANIMAL FOOD SO WE CANNOT EXPORT IT OUTSIDE OF THE UK

WE CAN ONLY SUPPLY FLUBENVET FOR DOMESTIC BIRDS.

The amount of Flubenvet used is based on the weight of the feed, not of the animal. For example, 60g of product (the whole tub) medicates 20kg of feed. See below for more information.

Flubenvet is provided with a handy small scoop so that the correct amount can be added to food. Treatment is normally continued daily for seven days, then repeated three weeks later. Free-range chickens should be kept in as large an area as possible, for welfare reasons and to reduce the parasite build-up on the ground. Moving the birds to a fresh area is also a big help, and ideally is combined with a worm treatment to help keep the new ground clean.

Chicken and geese

60g of product (whole pot) medicates 20kg of feed, when fed for seven days, this will medicate 19 laying hens

30g of product medicates 10kg of feed, when fed for seven days, this will medicate nine laying hens

6g of product medicates 2kg of feed. Feed use over seven day period (kg) divided by 0.33 = Flubenvet required for whole flock over seven days (g).

Turkeys

60g of product (whole pot) medicates 30kg of feed

18g of product medicated 9kg of feed

6g of product medicates 3kg of feed

Should be fed for seven consecutive days. Incorporate required amount into the daily feed ration.

Scoop included = 6g of wormer

Must be mixed well into feed.

55 Works well for my bantams
Verified Purchase

By on 21 November 2023

This works well for my tiny flock of bantams. They like to stay in their pens despite being offered freedom, so the ground gets over-used. I use Flubenvet to keep any worm issues low - and use it in the corn rather than regular feed which they would take ages to get through. Viovet had it at a great price and it was quickly delivered.

Q & A

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding Flubenvet Wormer, including answers from our team.

Partridge

Declan

Can you use Flubenvet to worm partridge that have gape worm

  • VioVet Staff

This product is only licensed in chickens, turkey and geese unfortunately. There is a game bird version that is likely suitable for use in partidges, I recommend discussing this further with your vet.

Treating Gape Worm

Barbara Earley

What dosage to give a single chicken and for how long?

  • VioVet Staff

The dose for this product can be found on the datasheet, it works by being mixed into the normal feed at a set rate. Your birds will then eat the correct amount of Flubenvet based on their size as they will eat more/less food based on their bodily requirements. The dose for Gapeworm is the same as standard worming:

| Chicken and Geese | Turkeys |
| 60 g of product (the whole tub) medicates 20 kg of feed | 60 g of product (the whole tub) medicates 30 kg of feed |
| 30 g of product medicates 10 kg of feed | 18 g of product medicates 9 kg of feed |
| 6 g of product medicates 2 kg of feed | 6 g of product medicates 3 kg of feed |

A level measure of the scoop that is included = 6 g of wormer. Use the scoop to measure the correct amount of product to mix into the dry feed as per the table above. Refer to the prescription for the exact inclusion rate. The dosage is dependent on the amount of feed that each bird consumes over the 7-day treatment period. Larger birds eat more feed and receive more medication according to their weight.

Duck worming

Jayne Connelly

I have 2 ducks who live with my 7 hens. Can I use Flubenvet to worm them at the same time as they eat the same food?

  • VioVet Staff

Unfortunately Flubenvet is not licensed for use in ducks, only chickens/geese/turkey. It may be safe off license for use in ducks but we cannot provide off license advise. We recommend chatting to your local vet for guidance on off license use of the product as they are legally allowed to provide off label advice for animals under their care.

Can this product be used on 6 week old chicks?

  • VioVet Staff

There is no minimum age given by the manufacturer. However most people start worming just before chicks are of egg laying age at around 16 weeks.

How many chickens does 6g treat?

Lucy Diciancia

  • VioVet customer since 2020
  • From: , United Kingdom

I have 4 chickens and added 6g into 2kg of feed as the label said so, but it doesnā€™t state how many chickens this will treat? Should I add more wormer to the feed? For it be effective

  • VioVet Staff

The dosing guidelines take into account how much the average chicken will eat. If the 2kg bag of feed runs out before the 7 day dosing period is finished then mix another batch of 2kg feed with 6g fenbendazole and keep feeding until this period is finished. Equally if it is not finished then do not worry, your chickens will have eaten the correct amount if mixed thoroughly.

What animals does this cover

Kirsty

Hi I was just wondering if this also covers rabbits, guinea pigs, quails and ducks. Kind regards

  • VioVet Staff

This product is licensed for use in Chickens, Geese and Turkeys. It can be used off license in other birds too (such as ducks/quails) but you will need a written prescription from your vet in order to purchase this for them.
If you are looking for a standard wormer for your rabbits/guinea pigs then I would advise Xeno-450 spot on.

Worm life cycle

John L

We recently treated our flock with flubenvet but the second batch was delayed in delivery so the gap between treatments was about 6 weeks. Should we give another dose 3 weeks on from the last one? I'm worried the 6 week gap will make the treatment ineffective because of the worm life cycle. Is that right?

  • VioVet Staff

Worming twice with Flubenvet is recommended because their will be some worms within your flock that are still as eggs inside them when you worm the first time. These will not be killed and will hatch within 3 weeks, the second worming dose will kill these.

If you have left 6 weeks then a second dose now will eliminate any newly hatched worms present but there is a small chance that they have reached maturity and have already laid eggs which are now in the soil/faeces. If your worm burden is not severe then this will likely be fine but if you are having serious issues with worms then I would advise repeating the initial course.

Shelf life of product

Judith

What is the shelf life of Flubenvet 1% in a 60g tub please? And what is the expiry date on your current stock? Thanks.

  • VioVet Staff

Hello,

Thank you for your message.

I have heard back from the manufacturers who have advised the following :

I am sorry that a broached shelf life has not been established for Flubenvet 1%. It was originally designed to be used on large poultry units where the whole tub would be used as soon as it was opened. We have made our regulatory team aware that today's users would find a broached shelf-life useful and believe they are working on a solution.

If it is stored according to the instructions and no contamination is allowed to enter the container, it is likely to remain stable until the expiry date:

Do not store above 25 °C.

Store in tightly closed original containers.

The product will remain stable in the finished feed for eight weeks."

Hope that helps,

VioVet.
