Feeding Eukanuba Veterinary Diets Restricted-Calorie™ formula is a great way to achieve the appropriate weight. This formula utilizes the Eukanuba Optimum Body Approach™ for trimming fat and maintaining muscle, and promotes gradual, sensible weight-loss. Restricted-Calorie™ is the ideal weight-loss formula for obese dogs or cats and should be used in combination with behavioural management and, where appropriate, an increase in physical activity. Individual target weight is determined depending on pet and breed. When dieting, the optimal weight loss is 1 to 3% weekly. For best results, both diet and a sensible exercise regime should be established.
Recommended For: Weight issues. It is recommended that a veterinarian's opinion be sought before and during the use of this product in order to determine the needs of your dog.

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding Eukanuba Veterinary Diets Restricted Calories Dog Food, including answers from our team.
Ann Cooper
She is a collie in her 5th year, the medication she is on for the seizures makes her hungry all the time. I need a dried food that will fill her but keep her weight down
This diet is likely to be as good as any other for your purpose, but it is a tall order. A dog which is on medication which stimulates the appetite will tend to eat too much of any food given the chance, resulting in excessive weight gain. The only really effective answer is to restrict the amount of food to that which produces the correct bodyweight. If she gets at all fat, you have been giving too much. However this is never easy to do because the correct amount of food as far as health is concerned is massively less than she would choose to eat, so she will pester for food and you will find it very difficult to keep to the correct amount. Most people give in because their dog genuinely feels hungry and they feel too mean, so their dogs are fat. Sometimes a diet based on fresh raw meat with a few vegetables and no starchy food or flavourings added (eg salt) will work, but that is hard work and often expensive. There is not an easy answer when most foods are deliberately made to encourage dogs to eat more (because people do not want to give their dogs "boring" food which they are not keen to eat. Therein lies the essence of the obesity crisis facing people and pets in the Western world!)
