I have tried several different products. My cross staffie is 13 and very stiff on front legs. As per info given I have been giving her double dose for a 4 week period. She is moving more easily but this takes time. Don't expect immediate result but impressive.

Help with pain

sparky

will this item help my dog with arthritic pain

  • VioVet Staff

This is a joint supplement so it will nutritionally support the joint to encourage repair and maintenance. This means it can reduce the source of the pain over time and so reduce arthritis pain. However it is not good as an option for pain relief specifically, if your dog is in pain with arthritis then it is worth contacting your vet to discuss pain relief options.

Hi,
My dog has end stage arthritis in both hips. Barney is on Onsior in a morning, plus yumove advanced with his dinner. Will he be safe using this too?

  • VioVet Staff

Yes this product is safe to use alongside Onsior and YuMove Advanced. However it contains very similar ingredients to YuMove Advanced and you shouldn't need to give both together. You are unlikely to see a significant benefit of using VetIQ Arthiti-Um Advanced alongside YuMove Advanced.

Green lipped muscle

Jacquie

So are you actually saying there is 5g of green lipped muscle per tablet, 5000mg?? I have heard of 500mg before but never 5000

  • VioVet Staff

I have checked the packaging of the product in stock and it confirms that the manufacturer claims there is 5g of Green Lipped Mussel per tablet. They are a reputable company and I am sure that this will be correct as far as it goes, but I am not aware how well this sort of thing is standardised between manufacturers. Some might quote the weight of fresh mussel used per tablet, but once it has been dehydrated, the weight will be about 10% of the original. Some manufacturers use "extract" of the mussel, hopefully containing the active constituents. The original research into the Green Lipped Mussel related to the very low levels of arthritis in Maori people eating large amounts of raw Green Lipped Mussel as part of their general diet. There is a massive leap from that to the modern use of supplements. To my knowledge it has not been scientifically established how much benefit is derived from using supplements, but they have become widely accepted as being beneficial and do seem to help. Choosing between the different products is a mine-field, but this product does appear to have a very high content and this is used as a marketing feature for it. The company will have to be able to stand by this claim.

About dosage

Hesham Mussa

What's the daily dose for a cane corso 10 month old that weights more than 40 kg?! No precious injuries ,no prob yet with joints; its just a bit of limping after taking a shower a week ago & I introduced some aspirin 80 for 48h but then I thought that Arthriti-UM plus might be suitable for his mobility .

  • VioVet Staff

This is a very heavy dog for 10 months old, so his joints will be under a lot of pressure. It is important to make sure that his diet is well balanced (for calcium, phosphate, protein and energy levels) so a good quality commercial diet would be my recommendation. I would also not feed him too much - it is best if he is slim while growing up and not carrying excess weight. His ecercise should be moderated too, so that he does not get over excited or tired when running about.

As for medication, Arthriti-Um would be fine for him. Even though he is very heavy, at his age he would not need more than 4 tablets twice daily, so that is the dose I would give him. (Perhaps when he is an older dog, he might benefit from a higher dose, but I do not think it is needed now.)
